This provision meets requirements Children are happy and well looked after in this home-from-home environment. They make choices about what they want to play with.
Staff plan exciting activities that capture children's interests. For example, children relish baking. Older children help younger children.
They read recipes and support younger children to weigh, measure and mix ingredients. Staff provide support and encouragement at all times. Children love to take part in creative activities.
Staff encourage children to develop their own ideas while they create pictures. Staff are good role models. They are kind, considerate and respectful of all ch...ildren.
Children work alongside staff to create the rules for the club. Staff listen to children's views and opinions. This helps to promote a sense of belonging.
Children's behaviour is very good. Staff eagerly interact and join in with children's play. They challenge children to games of table tennis and competitive board games.
Children can choose whether to play indoors or outdoors. Children's physical development is well supported in the vast outdoor area. Staff ensure that all children are included in activities.
Children play football, climb on the play equipment and chase bubbles as they float in the wind.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The well-established staff team works extremely well together. Staff comment that they feel valued and well supported.
They have regular meetings where they discuss any safeguarding matters and share information about their key children. Staff benefit from regular training to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. All staff have an excellent understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
Children are kind, polite and thoughtful. Children across all age groups mix well and play harmoniously. Older children show care and consideration for their younger peers, and invite them into their play.
Behaviour is very good and children are developing life-long friendships.Parents are happy with the service provided. They feel listened to by the staff at the club.
Parents comment that communication is excellent and that they appreciate the staff's commitment.Staff have excellent working relationships with the teachers from the host school. They exchange information and relay messages from teachers and parents to help with communication and consistency.
Children with special educational needs/and or disabilities are supported well. Staff work closely with teachers and parents to ensure they get the support they need.Children are fully engaged in activities throughout the session.
They often spend a long time at a chosen activity. For example, they use their imagination as they feed the dolls and wrap them in blankets. Children play together well, taking turns to push the dolls around in pushchairs.
Staff support children to follow good hygiene practices, such as washing their hands prior to meals and snacks. Children develop a clear understanding of how to keep themselves healthy. They talk about choosing healthy options for snacks.
Mealtimes are a social occasion. Staff encourage children to discuss their school day while they eat their snack. Snack time has changed, due to COVID-19 procedures.
Children no longer make their own sandwiches or wash the dishes. Staff are planning to reinstate previous snack time routines, so that children have opportunities to further develop their independence skills.Staff engage with children enthusiastically, listening to children's views and opinions.
They seek children's ideas about what type of activities they should carry out. Children evaluate activities and explain what changes they would like to see in the future. Staff listen to children's ideas and implement the changes.
This helps children to feel valued.Children have opportunities to complete homework during their time at the club. Staff are on hand to listen to older children read and help younger children with letter sounds.
Staff are also aware of children's need to wind down after a full day at school. They ensure there are areas where children can relax in a calming environment.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Staff have good knowledge of the signs and symptoms of possible abuse and neglect. They know the procedures to follow should they have any concerns about a child in their care. All staff attend safeguarding training and keep up to date with changes in legislation and policy.
Staff are aware of the signs that may indicate a child is at risk of radicalisation, female genital mutilation and county lines. Staff are deployed well to ensure good levels of supervision and support for all children. The leadership team follows safer recruitment procedures to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children.
