What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements All children, including those who are new, enter the setting happily and confidently. They settle quickly as they choose the activities they want to play with.
Staff explain the daily routines and planned activities at the start of the day, so the children know what to expect. Children feel comfortable in the care of the friendly staff team, chatting to them about what they would like to do. Staff help children to feel welcome, such as by inviting them to tell everyone something special about themselves.
Children are given time to think and express themselves, and they know their opinions matter. During whole group activit...ies, children listen to their friends as they speak and wave and smile kindly at each other to encourage the children who are shy. Children blossom in confidence throughout the day.
Children understand the rules and listen to and follow staff's instructions. For example, they line up before walking to the next activity and stay within the areas that staff tell them they can access. They know to tell staff when they want to go to the toilet or to get their drink.
Children who have not attended before are supported by staff to join in with other children's play. They form friendships and play together cooperatively.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The provider understands safer recruitment procedures and carries out the necessary suitability checks to ensure new and returning staff are suitable for their roles.
They organise regular training for staff before each holiday club, to refresh staff's knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures. The provider has systems in place to monitor the practice and provision of the staff working with the early years children, to discuss any additional support they may require. Staff enjoy working at the setting.
They comment on the support they receive and their positive relationships with the provider and management team.Staff are positive role models and manage children's behaviour effectively. Staff join in with children's games enthusiastically, such as pretending to eat the role-play food that children serve them.
They support children's creative skills and language development by talking to children during their games and modelling new vocabulary. Children respond well to staff's playful nature and develop warm relationships with them. The provider and staff plan and provide enjoyable activities that develop children's interests.
They take into consideration the children's ages and stages of development, to ensure all children can take part in each experience. Children have fun at the setting and are eager to try new things, such as archery.Children have lots of space and opportunities to engage in physical play.
They enjoy daily swimming sessions and play ball games. Children move in different ways as they learn to dance, such as jumping, balancing and stretching. They are proud to show their dance moves to the rest of the group.
They show good social skills, giving their full attention as they watch each other perform and then clap to show their appreciation.Staff are attentive to the children's needs. They notice quickly when children need support and encouragement to join in with activities and identify when to adapt the routines to meet the children's needs.
For example, they bring forward the time for children's lunch when they realise children might benefit from an earlier break. The provider and staff work closely with parents to provide the relevant support to meet the individual needs of children who require additional help.Parents report that their children have settled in very quickly and are excited to realise they will be attending that day.
Parents comment that their children really enjoy participating in the broad range of activities provided for them. Staff provide parents with detailed information during handovers to keep them informed of their children's experiences.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
The provider and staff have a good understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues. They know how to recognise and report concerns about children's welfare or the conduct of a colleague. The provider carries out a thorough risk assessment of the setting and activities.
For example, they decide not to go ahead with their plans to use the bouncy castle when the weather becomes windy, to keep children safe. Staff supervise children well and are in constant contact with each other and the management team via walkie-talkies to request help and share information. Staff know how to promote children's health, such as by carrying children's medication with them when they move around the premises and by informing parents of any minor accidents that occur.
