What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision requires improvement There are some areas of the nursery that lack accurate oversight and management, for example the planning of staff rotas.
There are short periods of time when staff ratios and deployment do not meet the needs of the children well enough. Mornings are particularly chaotic because not enough staff have been organised to come in to work. Some children are unsettled because there are not enough staff in the room to support their emotional needs.
That said, leaders of the nursery acknowledge there are areas needed for improvement. As more staff arrive, children get the support they need. Leaders have a positive attitude to fee...dback and are willing to implement change.
During these busy times, some staff do not record the accurate times children arrive and leave. This means staff are not always aware of the total number of children in the room. In the event of an emergency or evacuation this would put children at risk of harm.
However, overall, the children are happy and enjoy their time in nursery. Staff working with young babies offer cuddles and reassurance. They clearly share close bonds.
Older children learn to listen and follow instructions during circle time. Staff give them lots of opportunities to make choices and voice their opinions. This is preparing them well for their next stage in education.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Leaders are open and honest. They acknowledge that staffing levels are challenging first thing in the morning. They realise that the number of staff does not meet the needs of the children well enough.
Leaders are taking steps to rectify this and are reviewing all of their upcoming rotas. Therefore, there is minimal ongoing impact on children. It is during these busy times that administration tasks, such as registers, are not completed accurately enough.
As this is for a short period of time there is minimal impact on children. Once more staff are there for support, these tasks are then completed. The curriculum is well planned and builds on what children already know and can do.
The quality of teaching is good. Staff talk confidently about their intentions for children's learning. They link their planning of activities to what each child needs to learn next.
Older children benefit from clear and structured teaching. Pre-school staff talk calmly and model ideas to children. This helps close any gaps in children's knowledge.
Staff encourage children to be creative and use their imagination. Most children in the rooms for younger children show an eagerness to learn. However, occasionally, staff tend to talk and interact with the most confident children.
This results in some children wandering around and not learning at the same rate as others. This has an impact on the overall progress they are capable of.Leaders understand the diverse community they serve.
Staff support children who speak English as an additional language well. Leaders provide literature for parents in a variety of languages. Parent partnership working is strong.
Leaders and staff implement lots of different ways to engage parents in their child's education. For example, they send resources and books home. They offer parent workshops and events to share information and ideas to continue learning at home.
As a result, children maximise their learning between home and nursery. All children enjoy daily outdoor play and fresh air. They enjoy healthy, freshly prepared meals and snacks.
Kitchen areas are clean and hygienic. Children have access to fresh drinking water throughout the day. This all supports their overall good health.
Staff support children's communication and language well. They make good use of songs and stories to encourage children to talk. Older children participate in circle time, which focuses on children's listening and attention skills.
Children leave the nursery confident to talk and use a varied vocabulary.Leaders are passionate about upskilling their team. Staff complete regular training.
They feel very well supported in their roles. They describe leaders as 'amazing'. Leaders implement regular supervision sessions and provide staff with constructive feedback.
They observe staff practice and offer guidance where needed. This helps with the continuous improvement of the nursery.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage, the provider must: Due date ensure there are enough staff to meet the needs of all the children, particularly first thing in the morning 03/03/2025 ensure staff keep a daily record of the names of the children being cared for on the premises and their hours of attendance.03/03/2025 To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: provide support to all children to help them engage in learning so that all children make the progress they are capable of.
