What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children are happy as they arrive at this well-organised after-school club.
They independently put away their belongings before enthusiastically engaging in the many exciting activities and opportunities made available to them. Staff plan and incorporate activities and games that reflect the differing needs and interests of children. For example, younger children colour pictures of their favourite cartoon characters and older children colour and prepare flags in anticipation of forthcoming football championships.
Staff support children's well-being effectively. They listen to children and show that they value their opinion...s and ideas. Staff encourage children to develop these ideas as they participate in junk modelling activities.
They skilfully support the children as they build and create their models of jet packs and binoculars. Staff offer ideas and techniques, encouraging children to solve problems as they find ways to attach different parts and pieces to their models. Children smile with delight as they show off their finished models and staff praise their achievements.
Staff plan regular opportunities for children to play in the outside playground. Older children enjoy playing football, while younger children enjoy exploring and playing with staff to find sticks and leaves to build bird nests. Staff have high expectations for children's behaviour, and they are good role models.
Children behave well and they follow the club's rules and established routines readily. Children are polite and kind to each other. They share and take turns as they play happily alongside children of all ages.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The manager and her deputy work alongside staff to ensure that children enjoy their time at the club. They work with staff to continually develop the range of activities that children experience. The manager and staff meet and talk with children regularly about the club.
They gather children's ideas and thoughts about the things they like to play with and do, and they implement these activities into their provision. For example, including more craft activities and games, like chess and billiards.The manager and staff work closely with the primary school that the children attend to share information.
They communicate about children's individual needs and implement strategies to provide a consistent approach to caring for children. This supports children's overall well-being, including those with special educational needs and /or disabilities who have the same access to the club.Staff work as an effective team.
They have built positive relationships with children and show genuine respect and care for them. They sensitively join children in their play, thoughtfully noticing if a child is at an activity alone. They are very caring and sensitive to children's individual needs.
For example, they support them to learn how to play new games and persevere to complete jigsaw puzzles.Children demonstrate good levels of independence. They choose their own activities, select their own snacks and pour their own drinks.
Children help to tidy away resources and toys. This helps them to develop a sense of responsibility as staff support children to recognise the importance of keeping their play space tidy and safe.The owner supports the manager in the leadership of the club.
Staff feel supported by leaders and they have regular meetings to consider and discuss their ongoing performance and well-being. Staff refresh their paediatric first aid and child protection training regularly. Leaders discuss and identify areas of specific or targeted training for staff to support their professional development, however, this is not consistently implemented to further enhance the provision.
Parents are confident that their children are safe, happy and well cared for at the club. They comment on how happy their children are to attend the club. Parents greatly appreciate the flexible service that the club provides for them.
They also recognise and praise how the staff consider their children's suggestions when planning activities for them to experience.
