Throughout the nursery, children's communication and language skills are exceptional. Staff skilfully interact with children, taking time to listen and respond. When babies sit together to enjoy a snack, staff encourage a social atmosphere with back-and-forth gestures and babbling, saying children's names and smiling at each other.

Staff model a broad range of vocabulary throughout the nursery. Older children talk about the ginger, cinnamon and cloves they have added to their play dough to make gingerbread men.Children develop a love of books from a young age and anticipate sharing a book with staff with great excitement.

Staff regularly read to babies, sitting them in their lap and using the baby's finger to point to specific pictures as they read the story. Babies are fascinated to follow the story and focus well until the story is finished, smiling broadly throughout. Toddlers eagerly lift flaps in a book, naming the animal underneath and repeating familiar phrases.
