What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children happily come into the club and are eager to play with their friends. They are welcomed by friendly and caring staff. Staff know children well and have conversations with them about their families, their interests and local community events.

Staff help children to understand the expectations and rules of the club. Children follow these well and are polite and well mannered. Children know the routines well and independently help themselves to breakfast.

Staff plan a variety of activities and games linked to children's interests. Children choose what they would like to do or participate in. For example, older childre...n ask their peers if anyone would like to join them to play a board game.

Children have daily opportunities to play outside. Staff encourage children to play a range of active games to promote exercise and physical activity.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The manager has a very positive relationship with the school.

She works closely with the class teachers to share any relevant information with them, particularly in relation to safeguarding children. School staff share very positive feedback about how inclusive the club is.Staff have a good knowledge of the requirements of the early years foundation stage.

Younger children are given extra support as needed, particularly with care routines and preparing food.Staff are proactive and ensure there is adequate supervision of all areas. They ensure the site is secure and have additional procedures in place for drop off and collection when children are playing outside.

Staff use positive behaviour management strategies to remind children of the expectations of the club. Children behave well, take turns and share with their friends.Children enjoy daily opportunities for fresh air and physical activity.

They play a wide range of outdoor games. Staff provide a breakfast or healthy snack options during the after-school club. However, they do not use this as an opportunity to further children's understanding of food groups and the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet.

Parents are very happy with the club. They state that staff are professional and communicate with them regularly. Parents know their children are happy and enjoy attending the club.

The manager sends out parent and child questionnaires to seek feedback on the club as part of the ongoing continuous improvement process she is committed to.The manager follows safer recruitment procedures. She ensures that staff complete regular training to enable them to carry out their roles effectively.

Staff feel well supported by the manager.
