What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children arrive at the club happy and calm as they confidently put away their coats and bags.

They relax into the session, chatting with their friends and staff about their day at school. Children of all ages play harmoniously together as they access all areas, making choices about what they do. Children have a voice and feel highly valued.

They share ideas with staff who work hard to plan exciting activities that children will enjoy. For example, children enjoy arts and crafts, table top games, and role-play activities. Children are keen to share their views about the club and confidently share what they love about it..../>
They describe the staff as 'fun and kind' and say they can talk to them about anything. Children talk enthusiastically about how they enjoy spending time with their friends and developing new friendships. Children excitedly access the outdoor area, where they keep active and enjoy a variety of physical activities during each session.

They have access to the school playground, where they enjoy ball games and practise their physical skills on the climbing frame. Staff involve themselves in children's activities, and children enjoy their company.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff gather important information about children's individual needs from parents and teachers.

They effectively work in partnership with the host school during the day. This means that staff know each child incredibly well. This helps them to recognise any changes to children's health or emotional well-being and take appropriate action.

Managers and staff work hard to create a space which children can make their own, to help them develop a sense of belonging. Currently, the room used by the club is used by the school during the day, so all displays and activities have to be put away each evening. However, staff and children have created a memory book of photos.

This includes pictures of the children's work and activities they have previously enjoyed. This gives children the opportunity to look back and share their achievements.Children's behaviour is very good as they show kindness and respect for others.

Staff support children's behaviour by being consistent with the rules they apply. They offer children lots of praise for their achievements. Staff reward good behaviour with the star of the week award, which encourages children to develop positive attitudes and a sense of pride.

Children's good health is promoted well in the club. The children take turns washing their hands before they sit down to enjoy a healthy snack. They are provided with a well-balanced snack each session and are encouraged to think and talk about healthy eating.

The management team has robust systems to ensure that children's allergies and dietary requirements are met. As a result, children with allergies are kept safe.Children demonstrate good levels of independence.

They choose their activities, meet their personal care needs, and collect their belongings at the end of the session. However, the well-meaning, nurturing staff do not always consistently encourage all children to do things for themselves. For example, at snack time, the staff are too quick to offer help, such as spreading sauce and pouring drinks for children.

Partnership with parents is good and staff ensure information is regularly shared. Parents comment that they feel their children are happy and safe in the club and enjoy their time here. They receive verbal feedback daily and appreciate the emails and newsletters that keep them well informed about the club.

The well-qualified and experienced staff continually work hard to improve their knowledge. They take part in training that helps them to understand the specific needs of the children, so they can offer further support. Staff carry out daily risk assessments of the school grounds to ensure the safety of children.

They have also updated relevant policies and procedures. Children are provided with a safe and secure environment to play and learn in.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Staff demonstrate a secure understanding of safeguarding. This includes local safeguarding concerns, such as female genital mutilation and county lines. The staff know how to identify signs that indicate a child is at risk of harm.

They know the procedures to follow if they become concerned about a child's welfare or the behaviour of an adult working with children. Staff understand how to assess risks, so that children play in a safe and secure environment. The provider carries out robust suitability checks on staff to ensure they are safe to work with children.
