What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children thoroughly enjoy their time at the friendly club where wonderful relationships exist between children and staff.
Children say they feel safe, love everything and especially enjoy being able to choose what they want to do. Younger children happily share ideas with older children and are confident to join in whole-group games. Children's behaviour is good.
Leaders and staff are exceptional role models who truly value and acknowledge each child. All children display high levels of self-esteem and confidence. They are very supportive and appreciative of each other's efforts.
For example, older children kindly... reassure younger children when the marble run game they are making falls down. They are happy to help them to rebuild this and praise them for their efforts and achievements.Staff promote children's physical well-being effectively.
Energetic play is integral to children's time at the club and they have excellent opportunities to be physically active. For instance, children play sports and use apparatus with confidence in the extensive outdoor area. Staff follow children's lead and play alongside them enthusiastically.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children report that they enjoy the time they spend at the club. Staff are welcoming to children and spend lots of time playing with them. They are positive role models and provide children with warm praise for their achievements.
As a result, children are eager to participate in the exciting and imaginative activities available to them and enjoy being with their friends. The key-person system is effective. Staff demonstrate a good understanding of their responsibilities in helping children to feel safe and secure.
They know the children's preferences, interests and what makes them unique. For instance, staff recognise that some children may need time to rest and relax after a busy school day. Therefore, they ensure that children have access to quiet spaces to relax.
Children have access to a stimulating environment and staff provide a good range of experiences for them. For instance, children make sea creatures using socks and rice. They eagerly tell staff that they have made narwhals.
Children explain that these live in the arctic seas, are part of the shark family and have a long tooth that looks like a unicorn horn.Children build meaningful friendships and enjoy each other's company. They work together to create a wedding scene for the sea creatures they have made.
Children take on different tasks to prepare for the 'wedding', such as making bunting. They work as a team to hang this onto the climbing frame.Overall, staff have high expectations for children's conduct.
Children show high levels of respect for others. They behave very well and promptly respond to staff instructions, for example when it is time to tidy away the toys. However, occasionally, staff do not always remind children of the rules around mealtimes, including the importance of sitting when eating.
Partnership working between staff, parents and the host school is highly effective. There is a strong commitment to working cohesively to provide the best care, experiences and opportunities for all children.Staff ensure the environment is safe and secure.
Resources and equipment throughout the club are safe, of a good quality and varied. Staff carry out daily safety checks to ensure the club's rooms and equipment that children use are safe and fit for purpose.Staff work well together as an enthusiastic team.
They report that they feel supported and benefit from regular ongoing professional development to help keep their knowledge and skills up to date.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Leaders and staff fully understand their role and responsibility to keep children safe.
All staff complete regular safeguarding training and have a secure understanding of the possible signs and behaviours that could indicate a child is at risk of harm. They know how to report concerns, including allegations, to the designated safeguarding lead and, if required, to the local safeguarding partnership. There are robust recruitment procedures in place, and ongoing checks mean that staff working with children remain suitable.
