What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Staff in the club provide an inclusive, engaging and stimulating environment which children delight in exploring. Staff take time to find out about children's own interests and fascinations and use this information to plan the environment and resources.
Children are very engaged and they persevere at tasks for extended periods of time, developing their skills in concentration and focus. Staff are keen to provide children with new experiences which further enrich their knowledge and understanding of the world. For instance, children show excellent listening and participation skills during a highly effective music session, led by a q...ualified music teacher.
Staff promote an ethos of respect and kindness and this is reflected in children's good behaviour and positive attitudes. They care about children's well-being and use clear routines to help children understand what to expect each day. Staff model high quality communication skills to children and this helps children learn to articulate their ideas and feelings.
Skills in personal care and good manners are promoted. For example, children learn to eat with good table manners and wait for their friends to finish before they get down from the table.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff have a key focus on helping children to develop social skills.
They model play skills and use high-quality language and communication, which helps children learn how to play with their peers positively.Stories and discussions are used to promote an attitude of kindness in the club and beyond. Children show this kindness towards each other and staff as they play and explore the provision.
For instance, when new children join and seek out friends to play with, their peers are quick to respond and help them to feel settled and included.Staff plan and provide a wide range of exciting and interesting experiences to enrich children's knowledge of the world. For instance, the police and fire brigade visit to help children learn about their roles and how to stay safe.
An exciting visit from a therapy dog and handler provides children with knowledge of how to stay safe around dogs. Children also benefit from weekly sessions with a theatre group.Behaviour across the club is, on the whole, managed very well and children understand the boundaries that are in place.
There is, however, some inconsistency across the staff team in their response to some behaviour challenges. This means that children are not always clear about the consequences for behaviour choices. The manager is already aware of this and is working with the team to develop greater consistency.
Staff value the relationship with families and has established 'Family Fridays', where family members can join their children for breakfast. Parents share that staff are very accommodating which supports working families. They say their children 'adore' attending and are really well taken care of.
Parents also praise the support staff provide for families and their inclusivity towards children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.The manager is passionate in providing a high-quality environment for children and ensures that staff can access ongoing training as required. Team meetings take place weekly in order to evaluate, reflect and discuss ways in which they can continue to improve their service.
Staff take time to support children with their developing personal care skills. For instance, they use a hair salon role play area to teach children good habits in regard to washing and brushing their hair. Staff also encourage children to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Children show skills in independence as they fill their bottles from the water container and enjoy exploring different flavours by adding slices of fresh fruit.
