What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children excitedly run into the out-of-school club, after walking from school. They talk to their friends as they eat and enjoy their snacks.

Parents choose their children's healthy snacks when booking their sessions. Children access two rooms, which are set up with a variety of activities. Children write Christmas cards and discuss the spelling of words with friends.

They mould gingerbread men creations with dough. Staff encourage children to put eyes and buttons on their creations.Older children sit in a cosy area and read stories together.

Children play board games with staff and talk about the rules of the gam...e. There are lots of conversations buzzing around the setting, as children confidently talk to other children, staff and visitors. Children say that they enjoy coming to the out-of-school club and love dressing up and creative crafts, such as making wreaths.

Staff role model respect for children, and listen and engage with them. Children are very well behaved. Children feel safe and secure, due to the positive relationships they have with staff.

Children are praised by staff, as they work on creating a colourful angel to hang on their Christmas tree and build a sleigh out of wooden bricks.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children have the opportunity to take part in lots of fun and exciting activities. Staff ensure that children of all ages have a variety of activities and can find something they enjoy.

Staff arrange activities around weekly themes, so that children remain engaged with activities.Staff encourage communication with children. They ask lots of questions and extend children's thought processes.

Staff are very calm and patient, which engages children. When children become upset, staff respond quickly to resolve the situation. For example, they contact parents to collect their children when they feel ill.

Children's behaviour is very good. Staff role model positive relationships, as they respond to children's questions and comments. They listen to children's opinions and ideas.

Staff use different ways to connect with the children, such as they all wave their hands in the air. Children respond quickly and listen to the instructions.Staff promote children's understanding of healthy lifestyles.

While outdoors, children plant salad and strawberries. Once they are grown, children enjoy eating what they have grown.The leader is very supportive of staff, who feel that they can go to her when needed.

She has a good understanding of how to promote staff's good practice.Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are given space and time to engage. This helps them to feel comfortable to take part in activities and talk to staff about their creations.

Staff link with the local schools well, so that information is shared about children.There are strong partnerships with parents, especially in communicating about their children's time at the out-of-school club. For example, staff inform parents of any accidents or incidents.

Parents are highly complimentary about the service provided. They are pleased with the friendliness of staff and comment that their children love being at the out-of-school club.The out-of-school club has a large outdoor space.

Children can use this through the session, especially during the school holidays. However, staff do not consistently consider how they can offer children physical activities when the outdoor area is not accessible.The leader is passionate about the service the out-of-school club provides.

She wants all children to enjoy spending time at the out-of-school club. The leader wants the best for the children in her care. She evaluates the service she provides and makes improvements to enhance the practice.

For example, she has created a new allergy form to include more details to further keep children safe.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The provider is knowledgeable about safeguarding and safer recruitment.

She has good understanding about local issues, such as county lines. Staff feel comfortable to talk to the leader about their concerns. The leader ensures that safeguarding concerns are referred on time.

She has good links with the local school to work together to safeguard children. Staff use walkie-talkies to communicate, so that children are not left unattended. The door is not opened until staff know the identity of the adult, and staff check passwords, so that only familiar adults take children home.
