What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children thoroughly enjoy attending this warm and welcoming club.

Staff are kind and attentive. They ensure they gather essential information from parents to help children settle. Staff take their time to get to know children and find out what they like to do.

They listen to children and give them opportunities to voice their thoughts and opinions. Staff give children one-to-one time, which allows children to talk about their experiences, both inside and outside of the club. Children have a say in the types of activities provided for them and staff plan fun activities to do around children's interests.

Children de...monstrate close relationships with staff, laughing together as they participate in activities, such as a game of dominoes or drawing and designing their own pancake and toppings. Children are confident in the setting and familiar with routines. They behave well and are respectful and kind.

Children enjoy each other's company. Older children show care for the younger children, including them in their play and helping them, where needed. Quiet corners and zen zones allow those children, who wish to relax after a day at school, time, and space to do so.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children have good opportunities to be physically active when attending the club. A range of sporting activities are offered, including football, badminton and archery. Staff support children to have a go and develop the skills needed to take part.

For example, they help the youngest children to hold a bow correctly and teach them how to release the arrow successfully to reach the target. Activities such as these help children to develop strong hand-eye coordination.Children and staff chat throughout the session, interacting very positively.

The key-person system is effective in ensuring children are supported and settled in the club and staff know children well. These strong relationships help to develop children's self-esteem and confidence. As a result, all children are able to express their wants and needs easily to staff.

Parents receive communication about the club and the activities their children participate in through regular newsletters. They have good opportunities to provide feedback, both verbally and through parent surveys. Parents are happy with the service the club provides and know that their children enjoy attending.

Staff ensure that play spaces are safe and suitable through constant risk assessment. They escort children who are in key stage one, safely to the club and are always aware of which children should be attending. Head count sheets are regularly updated as children are collected, so that staff are aware of the children still present at all times.

The school is secure so that parents and visitors cannot enter the premises without being let in by a member of club staff.Children demonstrate their independence. They hang up their coats and bags and serve themselves food at snack time to create their own filled roll.

Children know to put their rubbish in the bin when they have finished and clear away their plate. Staff encourage children to make their own choices regarding food. Snack time is an enjoyable and sociable experience for the children as they chat to each other and staff about their day.

Staff promote children's good health. They encourage children to wash their hands before eating and follow good hygiene practices. Staff provide children with a variety of healthy and well-balanced foods, including raw vegetables and fruit.

Leaders and staff work well together as a team. They support staff in their professional development, providing access to training that helps to enhance skills, and the experiences provided for children. Leaders regularly check in with staff through weekly meetings and regular supervisions.
