This provision meets requirements Children enjoy their time at the club after their school day. Staff provide a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment.
As children arrive, they greet staff with big smiles and are eager to start their time with their friends. Children of all ages become deeply absorbed, exploring a variety of exciting activities and resources. For example, children proudly show the inspector the 'cherry pumpkin pie' they make out of dough and the 'snail' they create out of pipe cleaners.
Staff support children's play well. They sit with children, talking about what they are doing and give them ideas and additional resources to extend the...ir skills and thinking.Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour.
They support children to follow rules and routines well. Staff are good role models. This helps children to demonstrate respectful and polite behaviour towards each other.
Children demonstrate kindness and confidence and make the inspector feel very welcome. For example, they ask her name and introduce themselves. Older children take the time to support younger children, as they enthusiastically play ping pong with each other.
Staff provide children with many opportunities to take responsibility at the club. For example, staff let children know what food will be served at teatime and children create a visual menu for this.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children confidently talk about their experiences at the club and what they enjoy most.
For example, children say that they look forward to coming to see their friends and staff. This helps children's personal and social development and supports them to build relationships with a variety of children and adults. Children comment that they enjoy 'the cars' and 'craft' activities.
The manager and staff are enthusiastic about providing high-quality care. The manager has an accurate oversight of the quality of the club. She is passionate about creating an inclusive environment, where all children and staff feel included and respected.
Children follow good hygiene routines and know to wash their hands before they eat. The manager and staff support children to make healthy choices. For instance, they provide fruit and vegetables at teatime.
Children enjoy spending time outside, regardless of the weather. They chase each other, play with balls and create team games. This helps to promote their physical development and well-being.
Staff have a good understanding of the important role they play after children have been to school. They recognise that some children may be tired, particularly the youngest ones. Staff are aware of quiet or less-confident children and ensure that children are included or that staff sit with children and check in with them.
They have created an area where children can rest and have some quiet time, if needed.Parents are highly complimentary about staff and the quality of care they provide. They comment on the wonderful variety of activities that staff plan, particularly the creative activities.
Parents value the caring approach of the provider and staff. They all comment on how their children look forward to attending. Parents say that their children encourage them to collect them 'as late as possible', so they can continue to enjoy their time at the club.
The manager provides relevant training to improve and update staff's knowledge and skills. This includes regular safeguarding and health and safety training. The manager takes account of staff's well-being, providing support and advice when required.
Children are independent and enjoy doing things for themselves. For example, younger children know they must put any unfinished food in the bin and scrape their plates.The atmosphere at the club is calm and extremely nurturing.
Staff know children well. This helps them to plan activities based on children's interests and needs. Staff show a genuine interest and respect towards children.
This empowers children to share ideas and express themselves freely, and contributes to the respectful environment throughout.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The manager and staff understand their roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe.
They understand the steps they must take if they are concerned that a child may be at risk from harm, including when whistle-blowing. Staff complete regular safeguarding training to keep their knowledge up to date. The manager has completed designated safeguarding lead training.
All staff are subject to appropriate checks to ensure that they are suitable to work with children. Staff keep children safe in all areas of the setting. They complete regular risk assessments to ensure that the premises and resources are always safe for children to use.
