What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children thoroughly enjoy their time at the club. Staff warmly greet children as they collect them.
This helps children start each session in a positive mood, feeling welcome and safe. Staff are especially attentive to children who are travelling to another site on the club's minibus. They are playful with the children and make sure the transition is smooth and fun.
For example, while waiting for their friends, staff ask children to look out for 'escaped pumpkins'. Children giggle and happily take part. This helps these children settle and feel part of the club.
Staff create a well-organised environment that child...ren independently access. They incorporate the children's different interests and needs. Children benefit from activities to support their physical development.
Staff teach children about managing risk and keeping safe while using the sports equipment. Children understand the rules in place to keep them safe because the staff explain them clearly and consistently. As a result, children know to ask before moving between different rooms, to stop and listen to staff when they hear a certain clap and to be kind and considerate to each other.
This all helps create a safe environment, where children can engage in lots of fun and worthwhile activities.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Leaders and staff are highly committed to providing the best quality of care and education to children. They have high expectations and clear induction and training for staff.
This has a very good impact on staff practice. Regular supervision sessions and team meetings allow staff to receive feedback on their practice. Staff report feeling valued and part of a caring team.
Leaders ensure staff keep up to date with mandatory and additional training to help maintain good-quality practice.Staff have a comprehensive understanding of children's health and medical needs, such as allergies. They carefully consider the ingredients they use at mealtimes and during activities, so that all children have the same opportunities and feel included.
Children enjoy the wide range of activities and resources to help keep them engaged in their learning. They gather around the craft table and make monster pictures and models. Staff have a good awareness of when to join children as they play and when it is appropriate to allow children to become engrossed in their play without interruption.
Staff know children well. Younger children have a designated key person to help meet their well-being, safety and interests. Staff plan well, so that children can follow their interests and further build on the skills and knowledge they are learning at school.
These strong relationships help to develop children's self- esteem and confidence.Children speak very highly of their time at the club. They explain that adults listen to them and ask them about the things they would like to do.
Children say they like this because it helps them really enjoy the club and have lots of fun. This shows that staff are encouraging children to make decisions and share their views, which are important skills for all children.Parents are happy with the service the after-school club provides.
They comment on how their children enjoy coming to the club and how impressed they are with the many opportunities for their children to be physically active. Staff update parents daily about what their children have done at the club. Furthermore, parents feel well informed about the activities and any changes through a regular newsletter.
Children's behaviour is excellent. They are respectful of their friends and of the staff. Older children support their younger friends when they play together on the inflatable equipment.
All children are kind and caring towards each other. They build meaningful relationships.Partnerships with the on-site school are strong and effective.
Staff at the club and the school work together to ensure continuity of care and consistency for children. For example, they share information about children's individual needs, such as their education, health and care plans, to help provide children with the best possible care.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Leaders and staff have good knowledge of how to keep children safe. All staff complete regular safeguarding training to keep their knowledge and understanding of child protection up to date. Staff can identify the signs and symptoms that may be indicators that children are at risk.
They are aware of the procedures to follow and the outside agencies they should report concerns to if required. Staff complete daily checks of the environment to help identify and minimise potential risk for children. Additionally, they work in close partnership with the on-site school to ensure that the premises are safe and secure for children.
