What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children show they have positive relationships with the staff. For example, children confidently ask staff questions and hold conversations with them, such as asking them who the visitors in the setting are.
Staff welcome children into the club after their day at school and provide an environment they are keen to explore. Children say that the staff are kind and caring. They explain that when they are feeling sad or struggling with something the staff help them.
Staff are positive role models. They gently remind children to share the resources and encourage them to persevere when they find things challenging. For example, ...when creating a flag handprint, staff positively encourage children to complete the task and celebrate their achievements.
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), show excitement when staff take them to use large apparatus on the host school playground. Children show upper body strength as they hold onto bars and swing their bodies backwards and forward. Children are encouraged by staff to take and manage risks in a safe environment.
For instance, they persevere as children try to hop and jump from one tyre to another. Staff supervise children when they do this to offer support and guidance if needed.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
The staff team are committed to offering fun experiences and a high level of care for all children, including those with SEND.
Before children start at the club, staff gather information about what children are interested in and provide opportunities for children to experience these. This information contributes to children settling quickly and feeling comfortable in their surroundings.Staff provide children with a range of opportunities that help them explore and find out about the world they live in.
For example, they plan activities around celebrations and special events. This includes helping children to develop their knowledge about donkeys on World Donkey Day. Children confidently share their knowledge of Europe Day.
Staff help children to build on the learning they receive during their day at school. For instance, they provide opportunities for young children to develop their early writing skills. Children talk about the images that they draw.
For example, they tell staff, 'My face has two eyes.' Staff use effective strategies to help children show positive behaviour. For example, when children show kindness, such as when they hand out ice-pops to their peers, staff reward them with a sticker and say that they are 'Star of the day'.
Children are thrilled to receive this award and proudly smile and dance happily as their friends clap.Overall, staff promote children's independence well. For example, children take care of their belongings and select toys and resources independently to promote their interests.
However, sometimes, staff complete tasks for children that they can do themselves. For example, staff prepare children's snacks and cut out children's artwork.Staff attend meetings with the manager and the nominated individual to support their ongoing professional development.
Training courses are provided, such as developing staff's knowledge of how to promote positive behaviour. This training is incorporated into practice, including staff remaining calm when asking children to put their feet on the floor when they put them on chairs. Training helps improve staff practice and the quality of care provided for the children.
Staff share information with parents. Parents speak positively about the staff and know their children are happy and safe. They explain that communication is effective, and they find out from staff about their child's time at the club.
Parents say their children always leave with smiles on their faces.
