What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children thoroughly enjoy their time at the club. They eagerly greet each other when they come out of school and quickly get involved in activities with their friends. Children happily share with the staff what they have been doing during the school day.
Staff listen and value each child's contribution. They take account of children's interests and abilities when they plan activities. This helps to develop children's confidence and raise their self-esteem.
Activities are well organised during the session and capture children's curiosity. For example, children enjoy making friendship bracelets and skilfully thread beads and... select the colours they want to use. This helps to develop their fine motor skills.
Children have a wide range of opportunities to be creative. For example, they draw, paint and make models linked to their topics. Children enjoy sharing books with each other and have cosy areas where they can relax after a busy day at school.
During group times, they listen to each other's ideas and develop valuable social skills, which help prepare them for the future. All children become deeply engaged in their chosen activity and learn to mix with children of all ages.The atmosphere in the club is very positive.
Children behave well and show respect for others. Staff set very clear expectations for behaviour and are good role models. Children feel happy and safe with the caring, nurturing staff.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Leaders have considered the possible impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children's well-being. They have adapted their daily practices to focus on children's personal, social and emotional needs. This has had a positive impact on the children, who show high levels of confidence and self-esteem.
Children are learning about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Staff provide a range of healthy food choices during snack time, including fruit and vegetables. Children have access to water throughout the session and staff remind them to remain hydrated, particularly after outdoor activities.
Mealtimes are a social occasion, where children sit together to prepare their own snacks and engage in conversation with their friends.Children demonstrate good levels of independence. They choose what to play with, help themselves to snack and are encouraged to hang up their own coats and bags on arrival from school.
Staff understand the value of children's independence and take every opportunity to help them develop the life skills they need to support future development.Children form close relationships with staff. They are keen to share their views about the club and what they love to do.
Children say that they enjoy the different craft activities, such as baking and making art projects to take home. They look forward to playing outside with staff and other children and enjoy the fresh air.Partnership between the staff and the school is strong.
School staff pass on relevant information about the children's day. For example, any accident or incident, children's behaviour, or messages for the parents. This ensures staff at the club can offer good continuity of care for the children.
Parents are complimentary about the wraparound care their children receive. They comment that their children enjoy attending the setting and like taking part in the range of fun activities on offer. Parents are confident that children are safe and secure.
They receive verbal feedback from staff at the end of the session. However, some comment that they would appreciate more detailed information on the snack provided to children at the club.Leaders ensure the smooth and effective running of the setting.
Staff receive ongoing support to undertake their role effectively. They benefit from regular supervision meetings and have opportunities for professional development and training. Staff morale is high, and all staff enjoy working at the club and feel well supported by the provider.
Leaders regularly analyse their provision to ensure that the services they offer remain relevant.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The club has its own secure area within the host school site.
Staff closely monitor who is present while children move between the host school and the club at collection times. Staff have a good understanding of their role to safeguard children and keep them safe. Staff undergo a thorough recruitment process and induction programme to ensure they are suitable.
Leaders provide ongoing safeguarding training. Staff demonstrate a secure knowledge of the categories of abuse and other wider safeguarding issues, such as the 'Prevent' duty. Staff are familiar with the local procedures for reporting any concerns about a child in their care as well as any allegations made against other staff.
