What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements The club is well organised, and children understand and enjoy the structure that the club offers. When children arrive, they know to organise their belongings before choosing from the varied activities on offer.

Children show they are happy and excited to come as they say they like 'the teachers, the food and all the activities'. Children show confidence in speaking to staff about their day at school and engage staff in their chosen choices of play. Staff support children to behave well, show respect for one another and feel emotionally secure while at the club.

For example, they support children in playing games together ...and in navigating any disputes. Staff offer children comfort when they are upset. They ensure that children feel valued by offering them roles and responsibilities to further develop their confidence.

Children enjoy the opportunities on offer to support them in developing their small-muscle skills. For example, they use scissors to cut out shapes, copy letters using large marker pens and make bracelets and flowers by twisting pipe cleaners. Staff support children well by extending their thinking and offering them ideas.

Children show they feel comfortable in asking for help as needed.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff adopt a positive approach to managing children's behaviour. They offer children stickers and weekly rewards that celebrate their achievements in school and while at the club.

They work alongside school staff to ensure that there is consistency within this area. Staff have high expectations for behaviour and children respond well to this. For example, they have clear expectations for children lining up for outdoor play, sitting at the table for mealtimes and using their manners when asking for things.

The club values the importance of fresh air and exercise, and children have many opportunities to be physically active. Staff play with children in the large playground, supporting them with ball games and chasing games. Children enjoy the challenge of climbing up ropes, balancing and negotiating space.

Staff encourage them to 'keep on trying' as they encounter difficulties.Children enjoy the social experience of snack time, where staff and children sit together and enjoy a range of healthy food choices. Children, supported by the 'daily helper', take turns to self-select fruits and vegetables.

Staff take time to talk to them about their likes and dislikes and the importance of healthy eating as part of a healthy lifestyle. Staff remind children of the importance of daily routines for brushing their teeth to make sure that they stay healthy.Parents are happy with the club and fully appreciate the warmth that staff show their children.

They express that their children enjoy coming and that there are plenty of activities on offer. The club is currently working on strengthening communication with parents, so that parents are fully aware of what the club offers for their children.The club is inclusive and staff have a good understanding of how to support children with additional needs.

They adopt a range of strategies which are personalised to children's individual needs. Staff use the experience of the school staff and attend local authority forums to further support their practice.Staff understand the importance of teaching children about difference and being unique and special.

They engage children in activities to support their understanding of a range of religious festivals around the world, some of which include Diwali, Lunar New Year, Eid, Christmas and Easter. Staff talk to children about their own experiences, read stories to them and engage them in craft activities and in tasting a range of foods from around the world.Staff receive regular supervision sessions and are fully encouraged to engage in online and in-person training.

Experienced managers are always on hand and staff feel fully supported by them.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.
