What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is good

Children are excited to enter the setting.

They are warmly welcomed by staff who ensure that they are prepared for an exciting day of play and learning. Children eagerly explore the resources and enter into periods of free play. Children experience a wide range of learning opportunities in the local community.

They develop their mathematical thinking as they learn about shapes and numbers when staff point out the street signs and house numbers. They learn about the environment as they talk about the changing seasons and the weather. Local residents wave to them as they walk down the road, and this promotes children's f...eeling of belonging.

Staff know and understand the curriculum that they want to promote to support children's learning. They place a strong focus on extending children's social interactions, and communication and language. Staff follow children's interests as they participate in free play.

For example, they spontaneously follow children's comments about cutting down trees, leading to a walk to look at the trees. This later extends to watching a tree surgeon in their work. All children are fully immersed in the opportunities provided by this inclusive setting.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children practise their gross motor skills in the large outdoor learning areas. They join with their friends to hold a parachute low and high, moving up and down. They develop their balancing skills as they move across obstacles.

Children pass a ball backwards and forwards. These movements contribute to children's developing mark-making and writing skills. They are excited to use paintbrushes to show their creations on walls.

Staff accurately assess the progress children are making. A strong key-person system and shared communication about children ensures that all staff are aware of children's individual care and learning needs. Staff ensure that all children have next steps in their learning to strive towards.

Communication and language are strengthened and extended in a language-rich environment. Children are introduced to new words as they link sounds to picture cards. Staff offer an ongoing dialogue as children play.

However, in their eagerness to open children up to new experiences and learning, they sometimes do not give children enough time to respond.Children's behaviour is excellent. Staff act as good role models to show positive interactions with others.

They promote the use of good manners and model being kind to others. Older children show younger peers how to solve problems. They work together to open the conkers, telling them to use their heels to stamp on them to stop them rolling.

They are praised for their accomplishments.Children learn about hygiene and healthy choices. They wash their hands before lunch and brush their teeth afterwards.

Staff share ideas for nutritious packed lunches with parents. This extends children's understanding of healthy eating. It further supports the setting's approach in growing and eating its own produce.

Staff enable children to practise their independence skills. Children put on their own coats and high-visibility vests before going out. They serve their own vegetables at lunchtime and independently access drinking water.

They wipe their own hands and faces after lunch.Strong links with the host school enable children to transition seamlessly to the next stage in their learning. Staff prepare children for school by providing transition sessions and preparing detailed reports to share with teachers.

Children who may need additional support are helped to start their school life with extra resources provided by the setting. This helps them to settle quickly and ensures that their emotional and physical needs are met.Staff foster strong partnerships with parents.

They extend children's learning at home by providing a library sharing scheme. They inform parents about the next steps in children's learning. The setting offers stay-and-play sessions and parents' evenings.

These give parents opportunities to discuss their child's development and speak to their key person. Parents are very complimentary about the care and education provided to their children. They appreciate the updates given regarding their children's development.

Leaders and staff carefully evaluate the provision, taking into account feedback from others. They have an accurate view of the areas they would like to develop and strengthen. Staff are able to contribute to this evaluation and also identify training needs to promote their teaching to a higher level.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.

What does the setting need to do to improve?

To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: consider the length of time young children need to respond during conversations so they can share their ideas, knowledge and understanding of different concepts.
