What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision is good
Children eagerly arrive, happy and ready to learn. They quickly start to explore the array of resources and activities already on offer and placed on low-level tables. Children investigate with colours and shapes on an easel, while others distinguish between different textures and objects in the sand.
Staff support children very well. They ask open-ended questions to engage children in conversations.Younger children develop effective and close relationships with staff and their key person.
Staff understand children's individual needs well. They know when children show signs of being tired and offer a place for them to ...sleep or rest until they feel ready to join in with other activities.Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as starting school.
They take care of their own hygiene needs as they wipe their own noses and dispose of tissues appropriately. Children demonstrate that they feel safe. They move around within the setting with confidence and show their willingness to have a go at new challenges.
Children's safety is assured as staff remain close to supervise.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children enjoy a range of learning opportunities. Planned activities are well matched to children's individual learning needs.
Staff challenge children as they play alongside them, to promote their individual learning well.Partnerships with parents are strong. They regularly help with educational activities in the pre-school, such as reading books.
However, although arrangements are in place to encourage children's home learning, this is not promoted to the highest possible level.The manager is highly driven and ambitious. There is a strong culture of self-evaluation and making ongoing improvements to enhance children's experiences.
An effective management team provides staff with regular support and coaching. This helps to promote good-quality teaching across the team. All mandatory training is undertaken and additional training courses offered to help with staff's ongoing professional development.
Children's physical health is encouraged well as staff promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. They are offered daily opportunities to be outside and enjoy the fresh air. For example, children enjoy riding bicycles in the playground and searching for bugs in their wooded area.
The outdoor area is under review to be extended. This will offer more learning opportunities across the different areas of learning and support children to lead active lifestyles.Staff provide good support for all children's communication and language development, overall.
For example, staff model words well for children well.They repeat and pronounce words that children find difficult to use. Staff provide a wealth of story sessions for children throughout the day.
Children love reading and are encouraged to join in as they develop their speaking skills further and their love of books.The quality of interactions between staff and children is excellent. Staff are able to clearly explain the learning intent for activities.
They weave mathematical language into play as they support the children seamlessly, following on from their current interests. For example, staff use numbers on the carpet spots to tell children where to stand. This helps children to begin to learn about different numbers.
Effective partnerships exist with the on-site school. The setting works closely together to provide a continuation of learning. Pre-school children have a cooked lunch in the school hall and join in with school celebrations and festivals, such as Christmas plays.
Children behave very well. Staff are strong role models and ensure clear and consistent boundaries are given to the children. As a result, children learn to respect one another.
All children share toys and resources and work together to tidy up and pack equipment away.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.All staff have a good knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
They have a clear understanding of the signs and symptoms and what procedures to take should they have any concerns. There are thorough recruitment and vetting procedures in place to help ensure staff are suitable for their roles. Staff also undergo an extensive induction programme, which includes detailed safeguarding training, to help them understand their responsibilities to keep children safe.
Detailed risk assessments are in place. These help to minimise or remove risks to keep children safe at all times.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: build on arrangements already in place to help support children's home learning, to further improve their overall progress develop the outdoor space to extend the range of opportunities and support children to explore and learn outdoors even further.
