What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision does not meet requirements Children look forward to attending the out-of-school club. They excitedly chatter about what they intend on doing as they are collected from their classrooms.

They are able to choose the activities they participate in and show high levels of engagement. Children appreciate the ability to feedback on the range of activities provided. They show high levels of confidence.

They warmly welcome visitors to the setting and talk about their opportunities to give feedback on what they would like to do and what they enjoy doing. All children are helped to settle into the routine of the out-of-school club. An effective key-wo...rker system ensures children's individual needs can be met and reassurance can be given to younger and newer children to the setting.

Children behave well and use good manners. They respond well to staff praise and reminders about appropriate behaviour. They are kind to their friends, sharing the resources and helping out.

They take turns holding the door open for their friends and help to tidy away as the session nears the end. Children play well together, which is facilitated by staff's focus on building relationships and interactions with others.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Although staff demonstrate an understanding of the things which would cause them concern about a child's welfare and the action they should take, they have not received up-to-date training in this area.

The safeguarding policy and procedures are not up to date and are not easy for staff to access.Although supervisions with staff have occurred in the past, these have been irregular. Staff have not participated in recent appropriate professional development opportunities that will support them in caring for the children, other than first aid.

Staff have not been able to identify and access the training opportunities that would benefit their roles.Staff provide children with ample opportunities to practise their fine and gross motor skills. They practise using scissors and other tools when making Halloween craft creations.

The access to the large playground and equipment enables children to run and climb. Younger children practise their balancing skills as staff supervise their movements around the play area.Staff promote children's independence skills as they encourage them to carry their own bags and water bottles as they move from classrooms to the out-of-school room.

Staff enable them to access a range of resources, which they are able to choose from and decide on their areas of play. Children learn how to be responsible for their own belongings. Older children are given jobs to make them feel responsible.

Parents express satisfaction with the care provided for children. They explain that the range of activities make the children excited about attending. They are able to talk to staff about their child's day and what they have been doing with their friends.

The provider has built good relationships with the host school. They ensure that good arrangements are in place for the collection of children and contingency arrangements are in place if children are not collected. Staff share information as appropriate regarding the care of the children.

Appropriate risk assessments are in place to ensure children are safeguarded at all times. Staff are very efficient at supervising children and any risks identified are quickly dealt with. The provider ensures safer recruitment measures are in place when employing staff.

Staff remind children about keeping themselves safe. They remind them how to stay within the group and move safely around the building. Staff carry out regular head counts as they collect children and complete an accurate record of attendance.

Children are reminded about not running around inside.All staff ensure others are able to contribute to the evaluation of the setting. Children and parents are able to offer feedback to contribute to how the setting can improve and move forward.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.There is not an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.

What does the setting need to do to improve?

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date devise an up to date safeguarding policy and procedures, which reflects the guidance of the local safeguarding partners and guides staff on the action to take if concerned about children's welfare 08/11/2024 train all staff to ensure an up-to-date understanding of safeguarding issues and the revised policy and procedures 08/11/2024 ensure staff have opportunities, identified during supervision, to update their professional development appropriate to their role.
