What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children arrive at the setting, safely escorted by their teachers, and are signed in with staff members. A wide variety of activities is available and children quickly become engaged.
Children have access to a large hall space as well as the outside playground areas. When playing outside, the setting applies the same rules as the school, providing consistency for children. Children play on equipment that is appropriate to their age group.
They are able to access the equipment independently, with staff close by to support as needed. Older children relish being given responsibilities to support younger children. Children hav...e wonderful relationships with the staff team and they talk about their enjoyment in attending the setting.
Staff show an interest in the children's day. They enjoy talking to staff about what they have been learning at school that day. When children bring in homework or other activities from school, staff join children to find out what they are doing.
They offer praise as children complete their 'reading logbook', creating wonderful illustrations and writing. Children proudly share their achievements, building their self-esteem.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children have ownership of their setting.
They make decisions about what they want to explore, as well as helping to plan parties, such as a recent Coronation Party. Children remain engaged in activities for long periods of time. This demonstrates how much they enjoy the activities available.
Children explain that staff talk to them regularly about the things they like to do.The setting provides all children with a snack during the session. This is varied and supports healthy eating guidelines.
Children know they have to wash their hands before eating, developing healthy hygiene practices. At breakfast club, children independently pour their own cereals and make their own toast. However, children attending the after-school club do not have the same opportunities to independently make their tea.
Staff create close bonds with children from the moment they start at the setting. They take time to get to know new children, spending time with them at activities and getting to know them personally. This supports children to settle quickly.
Children enjoy the physical activities created for them. They ask when the indoor games are going to start, and staff are quick to encourage them to tidy up and get ready. Staff create fun, energetic and educational games that encourage children to run around and develop their physical skills.
The setting works very closely with the school. Staff share information daily about how the children have been during their school day and any issues or concerns they may have. For younger children, staff talk with teachers about their development.
They track children to ensure any gaps in learning are met at the setting.Children's behaviour is exemplary. Staff talk to children regularly about the rules of the setting and this ensures children understand expectations.
The setting has a clear routine, which children understand and follow with ease. This helps to create a calm environment at the setting.Parents are complimentary of the setting.
They talk about the relationships the staff team have with their children, and how children talk fondly of them. Parents explain that any issues or concerns are always dealt with quickly. They state that there is clear communication between the head office and parents.
Parents say that they wish they could send their children more often.The manager and staff team feel very well supported by staff at the head office. They regularly reflect on the setting together, making changes and adaptions where needed.
All staff complete regular training and new ideas are implemented in their practice.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have good knowledge of the signs and symptoms of abuse.
They understand how to report any concerns they may have and the importance of recording the information they receive. Staff are aware of local safeguarding issues and put processes in place to ensure children's safety. The premises are safe and secure.
Parents ring staff to inform them that they are on the premises to collect their children. Staff complete daily risk assessments of the whole area. Their suitability is checked regularly.
