What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children are happy at the club.
Staff are mindful to make sure all children are included and can access the activities or resources that they wish to. Staff show a genuine interest in children. They take time to chat with them, listening to their ideas and stories and engaging them in conversation.
Staff offer reminders to children as they play, to ensure they follow safe practices and help them consider the needs of the other children.Children love the creative opportunities at the club. They spend considerable time following their interests and exploring the craft materials.
They readily find resources to adapt ...their creations. Staff offer children sensitive support, ensuring they let children create in their own preferred way, and try out and persevere with new or slightly challenging tasks. In this way children do well to use different materials and master equipment, such as scissors and to peel the backing off self-adhesive items.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff build positive and beneficial relationships with the children. They work with parents, gaining information when children first start and discussing things on an ongoing basis, to get to know children very well. Parents say staff really do care about the children, that they understand them, know their personalities and what they like doing, and support them well.
The club's shift leader leads suitable practice and carefully considers children's safety. She ensures staff are deployed effectively to supervise and support children. They use walkie-talkies to communicate when they are in different areas, making sure they can meet children's needs.
The procedures for collecting children from the school classes are robust, with staff checking numbers of children and ensuring they are all checked in on their electronic systems. Security and pick up arrangements are conducted thoroughly. Staff implement these carefully, ensuring children's safety and well-being.
Staff work in close partnership with teachers at the school. They are particularly mindful to speak with Reception class teachers at pick up. They liaise about children's needs and use this information to support children while at the club.
They also make sure they pass on any necessary information to parents when they pick up the children at the end of the day.At times, staff beneficially involve children in the routines of the club. Children take care of their belongings, putting them in their designated areas.
They are encouraged to tidy away the resources when they want to get other items out. However, some of the club's routine activities, such as snack time, are not as well thought out. Staff offer children lots of choice.
However, they make and serve each child's snack for them, missing the opportunity to encourage children to develop useful skills themselves. Staff ensure that the younger children go first but as the serving of snack takes considerable time, children do not get the chance then to sit together and socialise.Staff lead fun activities for the children outside, using the different areas of the school grounds well.
Children have great fun playing different games as a group. Staff join in and they all giggle as they move in different ways, such as dancing and speed walking in the 'floor is lava' game or creeping carefully in 'grandma's footsteps'. Younger children cooperate and follow the rules well, listening to the staff's tips and reminders.
They try hard and are proud of their achievements.Staff work as an effective team and communicate well. The provider supports staff's professional development closely and undertakes regular support meetings with staff.
They are encouraged to undertake any additional training they may wish to, and the provider has a membership with an online training company to facilitate this.The provider is passionate about providing a quality provision for children. He works hard to evaluate the effectiveness of the club, gaining the views of staff, parents, and children to help him with this.
He continually makes positive changes to enhance children's daily experiences.
