What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Staff warmly welcome children when they arrive from school each day. Children quickly settle to their chosen activities.
They independently decide if they want a snack and a drink after washing their hands. When necessary, younger children are supported by staff, including if they want to sit quietly. This promotes children's emotional well-being.
Staff have high expectations for children's behaviour. They talk to children about being kind to others and listen to their views and opinions. Children are respectful and helpful to their friends, siblings and visitors.
They speak politely to staff as they engage in mea...ningful conversations about their day at school. Any minor concerns about behaviour are managed carefully by staff, who use gentle reminders to be kind. This helps children learn how to behave well.
Older and younger children work together to design and make models from a range of boxes and cartons. Staff work with younger children to help them decide which boxes would be suitable and what materials to use to join them together. This develops their imaginations and creative skills.
Older children play board games in small groups, which they organise and manage independently. They ensure that their friends are fully included in the games. This promotes their social skills.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Strong leadership and management means that the individual needs of all children are provided for effectively. Staff have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. They work very closely as a team and undertake training that helps to develop their knowledge further.
Staff receive excellent support from the manager. They are fully included in the operation of the club, and their ideas and suggestions for further development of the club are valued. For example, further opportunities children have outdoors to support their imaginative play are being developed.
Leaders and staff place a high emphasis on children's happiness. They obtain relevant information about children from parents and from the teachers at the school. This helps staff to know the children well.
Staff are kind and caring with children. They encourage them to talk about their feelings and show empathy. They ask children about their interests and what they enjoy doing at home.
This helps to build positive relationships between children and the adults who care for them.Children are fully involved in deciding what activities they would like to engage in each day. Staff encourage children to discuss their ideas and suggestions for the week.
For example, they provide the required resources, such as empty boxes for junk modelling or equipment for hairdressing, when activities are suggested by the children.Children communicate well. They happily have detailed conversations with staff and with each other, with lots of laughter.
They are animated as they describe funny situations they were involved in at school with their friends. They talk about the activities they have chosen or want to do next. Children confidently describe their work to their friends.
They eagerly speak to visitors and explain how much they like attending the club.Children are very independent. They compile the rules of the club together and hold each other to account.
They decide when they want a snack and access drinks when they choose. Younger children enjoy moving between activities with their friends. For example, they agree to brush each other's hair when asked.
They join staff for a game of chess when another child needs a partner. They share resources, such as the glue when making their pictures. This shows that they are considerate and eager to help.
Leaders and staff develop strong relationships with parents and with the school children attend. Parents are very complimentary about the staff. They comment that their children love attending the club.
They receive detailed daily feedback. Relevant information is shared daily between the club and the school during handover so that children are well supported. Staff know what children are working on at school and build on this learning at the club.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Leaders and staff have a clear understanding of their responsibilities for safeguarding. They remain vigilant to any signs that may indicate a child is at risk of harm.
Staff undertake training to ensure their knowledge is current. The manager liaises closely with the school, where necessary, to work together to protect children. Appropriate procedures are in place to record and report any allegations against a member of staff should any arise.
Strong recruitment procedures mean that only adults who are suitable to work with children do so. Daily risk assessment ensures that the premises are safe and secure. This means that children are protected.
