What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children enter the setting happily and are eager to join in the fun. Children demonstrate a strong awareness of the daily routines as they quickly hang up their coats and belongings and rush off to play. Children benefit from warm, caring relationships with staff.

Staff spend considerable amounts of time absorbed in discussion with children, asking them about their day in school and what they have been doing during the week. Children are very keen to tell the inspector all about their time at the club. They explain that they really enjoy attending as the staff are 'amazing'.

They particularly enjoy games of chase around th...e soft-play equipment. This is evident by the squeals of laughter and delight.Children are independent and freely make choices about where they would like to play.

They are confident to put forward suggestions for different activities, such as purchasing a games console, which staff accommodate where possible. Younger children develop positive relationships with older children, who provide guidance and support to them. For example, younger children receive help with serving snack.

This effectively supports children's confidence, self-esteem and helps to develop a strong sense of belonging.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Children are safe and feel safe. Staff carefully and sensitively explain the setting's rules to the children.

This helps children to learn to take responsibility for their own safety. For example, children explain to the inspector why they need to hold the rope as they walk home from school. This keeps children safe when they cross the roads.

Children play well together, they share resources and take turns. They understand the routines, such as the younger children using the soft-play equipment first. Children respond well when they are given a five-minute warning to come off the equipment.

Children explain about the 'star of the week' award and how this is for people who had done something special.Children have many opportunities to be creative. Staff skilfully interweave creative activities with the opportunities to introduce children to new ideas and build on what they have been learning about in school.

They thoroughly enjoy creating thistles using their prints and hearing about Robert Burns and the celebrations around Burns Night. Children tell the inspector about the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations and the buffet the staff are creating for them.Partnerships with school are positive.

The staff reliably pass on messages between parents and school. This continuous flow of information effectively support the children's needs.Staff have a very good understanding of the children's individual needs.

Carefully constructed health care plans mean children with health conditions are effectively supported and remain fit and well. Children are provided with a range of healthy drinks and snacks. Children are aware that they need to have drinks when they come off the soft-play area, so that they can stay hydrated.

Staff say that they feel very well supported by the manager. They have regular access to training and support and acknowledge the importance of the open-door policy in place should they need to discuss any issues.Parents are complimentary about the setting.

They say that the manager and staff genuinely care about their children and that their children love attending. Parents say that they are reassured that their children are safe and happy.

Children's safety is of paramount importance. Effective collection procedures from schools ensure that children arrive at the setting safely. Procedures for parents and carers collecting children are robust and further ensure children's safety.

Staff have a secure understanding of risk management and the reporting procedures. Staff are knowledgeable about the possible signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of harm or are vulnerable. They understand the correct procedures to follow if they have concerns about the welfare of any child in their care or the conduct of a colleague.
