What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Leaders work closely with the school, parents and staff to create an inclusive and safe space for children.

This is at the heart of the club and is a core strength. All children thrive in the calm and caring atmosphere that leaders and staff work hard to create. Children are carefully supervised by staff.

Children are supported to have a sense of belonging. For example, when it is time to tidy up for tea, children who have created a large train track are asked if they would like to save and protect it. Staff help children to carefully move this to the side so that it does not get broken.

Children understand that their play and their creations are important and that they can return to these after tea.Staff reflect on the experiences they offer children. Recent changes include providing further opportunities for children to make more of their own choices at the creative table.

They have a large storage area located next to the art table that allows children to extend their creations by selecting the resources they require. Children confidently reach inside a draw to select some tape and scissors to extend their artwork.Staff provide healthy and nutritious snacks for children to enjoy.

They discuss different online games that are current and what age children should be to play these and the reason for this.Children have free access to outdoor activities. Staff make sure that the outside is accessible as soon as children arrive.

Children enjoy running around, using skipping ropes and developing their physical skills. They make up their own game of throwing balls into goals and ask staff to referee the game. Counting and understanding of number is carefully weaved into the game by staff as they keep scores.

This helps younger children to further embed their understanding of numbers.Parents say that their children love coming to the club. They explain how their children can play with different ages of children to help develop their social skills.
