What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Staff encourage the children to be independent during their time at camp.

For instance, they carry their lunch boxes to the dining room. Staff complete checks on the food children bring in their packed lunch, to ensure that those who have allergies are kept safe during mealtimes. Staff are vigilant and supervise children well throughout the day.

There are regular head counts and the register is called when they move from one area to another. This ensures that staff account for all children. Staff organise children into specific age groups and the activities are planned to meet their age and ability.

When all child...ren have arrived, staff invite them to gather around in their allocated groups and explain the planned activities and the expectations they have for their behaviour. This enables children to understand what will happen throughout the day. Children have fun playing basketball with their friends.

The staff explain the activity before children start their game and model how to bounce the ball and get it in the hoop. Staff support children during art and craft activities, they invite them to make choices of the colour paint they want and to cut and stick the top of the witches hats they make. Children are proud of the creations they make and confidently show off the autumn wreath they have made.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

There are effective induction procedures in place, to ensure that all staff are trained to enable them to understand their roles and responsibilities. Staff have a secure understanding of safeguarding procedures to keep children safe. Senior management complete regular audits to ensure the setting is compliant with the legal requirements.

Staff working with younger children are experienced and qualified, to ensure that their needs are met.The children have access to a wide range of activities during their time at the camp. The activities are changed around throughout the day to ensure that there is a good variety to meet the needs of the children who attend.

Younger children have their own base room to use when the camp is busier, such as during the summer holidays. The company seek information from parents before children start to ensure they know what type of activities children like to do, their needs and if there are any additional needs staff should consider when implementing the activities. There are good levels of engagement with staff and children.

Children like to show and tell staff about what they are doing, for instance the towers they build from bricks. At the beginning of the day, the staff sit with their groups of children, and they talk about the expected behaviour and what the day ahead has in store for them. Staff remind children during the day to use their kind words, when they are at camp.

Staff have clear expectations of the children, who behave well. Staff reminded them to use their 'kind hands', when playing with their friends, and their walking feet, when heading towards an activity. Children are rewarded by staff for their good behaviour.

They share and take turns with their friends and learn to follow simple instructions from staff, such as getting of the bouncy castle to let their friends have a turn.Children get plenty of fresh air each day. They are many opportunities for them to have a go at a variety of sporting activities to promote their good health.

For instance, they play tennis with their friends. Children confirm they enjoy going swimming. Effective risk assessments include having a trained lifeguard on duty and a member of staff in the pool with younger children, to support them.

The provider seeks the views of the parents following camps. They ask specific questions to identify what parents and children really like and where the provider could make improvements. The parents noticeboard in the reception area provides information about the staff on duty, including those who have a qualification in first aid and the activities planned for the day.
