What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are happy on arrival at the club. They talk enthusiastically with staff about the learning they have been involved in at school.

There is a lively buzz as children greet each other and put their bags away. They are aware of the need to follow hygiene rules before serving themselves with their snack. Children select the fillings they enjoy and competently construct their wraps.

They are extremely sociable and interact well with their peers and the staff who sit with them at the snack tables. Children enjoy spending time outdoors. They have access to a large play area, where they organise and participate in team gam...es and sports.

Children know that they need to drink plenty of water in the warm weather and they rest in the shade after they have been involved in physical play. Children play extremely cooperatively. They build strong friendships and develop and negotiate the rules of their play.

For example, children take on roles in pretend play. They are respectful of the views of others and take time to listen and respond positively to their peers.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The leaders and staff team are extremely skilled and effective.

They are excellent role models for the children. Staff communicate respectfully with the children, explaining things clearly to them and encouraging them to share their thoughts and ideas. Staff and children work together to record activities in a large floor book.

This book is extremely popular and offers children the opportunity to reflect on and discuss previous experiences.Staff are well supported by leaders. They receive regular supervision and access many opportunities for professional development.

Staff share that they feel listened to and extremely valued. The team work highly effectively together. They reflect on and evaluate the provision on offer to drive improvement.

The provision is inclusive. Leaders and staff are knowledgeable about how to most effectively support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. They work closely with teachers from the school so they can provide continuity in children's care.

This helps to ensure that children receive appropriate support to enjoy every aspect of the provision on offer.


Leaders seek the views of parents and children. They use regular questionnaires to gather thoughts from parents, while staff encourage children to share their experiences of the club.

Comments from parents and children are displayed and these form part of the planning for future activities and opportunities. Parents are delighted with the service on offer and comment particularly on the warm and friendly staff and leaders.Staff have extremely high expectations of children.

Children behave impeccably and support their friends to make the right choices by reminding them of the rules. Staff consistently encourage children to be kind and respectful. Children respond extremely positively to staff and follow instructions promptly.

Staff create opportunities to remind children about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. For example, they invite children to get involved in making fruit kebabs. Staff skilfully support children to use safety knives competently to chop their fruit and thread it onto the skewers provided.

Children are excited to take their kebabs home.Children are confident communicators. They are keen to share with visitors the resources on offer and talk about play they get involved in.

Children's unique preferences are respected by staff. For example, some children spend prolonged time drawing and writing, while others engage in more physically active play.Staff promote children's freedom of expression and creativity.

Younger children delight in dressing up and have great fun exploring the outfits on offer. They play cooperatively as they pretend to sing in a band, dance together and use musical instruments. Other children independently select craft materials to work on a creation to take home in celebration of Father's Day.

Partnership working is highly effective. Leaders and staff have established strong working relationships with the school, on-site pre-school and parents. Staff gather information about children's preferences and interests.

They use these effectively to support children's engagement in activities and opportunities.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Leaders have developed robust and effective systems for keeping children safe.

Staff attend regular training and refresh their knowledge through professional discussions at staff meetings. Staff have a strong working knowledge of their role and responsibility to protect children from harm. They are clear about the signs and symptoms of abuse and the action they should take if they have a concern about a child.

Staff support children to learn about keeping themselves safe. They enable children to develop their understanding of online safety. The club works in partnership with the school to ensure that this is consistent and effective.
