What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children are happy and settled and they thoroughly enjoy spending time here.

They feel safe and secure. Staff have formed close bonds with children. They have high expectations of all children and are positive role models.

Staff encourage children to use good manners and they treat children with the greatest respect. Children behave well. They listen attentively to staff's instructions and follow them well.

Staff praise children for their excellent listening skills. This helps to build up their self-esteem.Staff get down on children's level as they talk and play together.

Children take staff's food orders... and make their meals and drinks in the role-play kitchen. They excitedly talk to staff about stories they are reading in school. Children are engrossed as they work together to draw animals and the habitats they live in on a large roll of paper.

They talk with staff about the food the animals like to eat.Many of the procedures implemented specifically as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have now been relaxed. However, parents continue to drop off and collect children at the door.

Children still follow rigorous arrangements with regards to handwashing.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

Staff provide healthy snacks for children. Children have lots of opportunities to participate in physical activities.

They practise their kicking skills as they play football in the outdoor area. Staff teach children how to hit balls with tennis bats. Children giggle with glee as they play on the see-saw together.

They enjoy climbing and balancing on the large play equipment. These opportunities help to promote a healthy lifestyle.Children's physical development is promoted well.

Children use spades to scoop sand into moulds. They work out how to sieve sand back into the bucket. Children pour water into different containers in the water tray.

They use spoons to carefully spread icing on their Valentine's Day cakes. These opportunities help to strengthen children's small-muscle movements.Parents are happy with the service provided.

They comment on how friendly and welcoming the staff are and how children look forward to coming to the club. Parents praise the staff for the enjoyable activities the club provides for children. The manager includes children's, parents' and staff views in her self-evaluation of the setting.

Staff provide verbal feedback to parents during handover times to inform them about the activities they have been doing at the club.Children are confident communicators. They talk to the inspector about the activities they enjoy doing at the club.

Children make choices about what they would like to do and what they want to play with. Clear routines provide children with a good structure to their time spent here. This keeps them well occupied.

These opportunities help to enhance children's growing independence.The manager ensures that staff complete mandatory training, such as safeguarding and first aid. Staff are encouraged to contribute their ideas through informal discussions.

However, staff do not benefit from a robust enough programme of ongoing supervision to help them further enhance their skills.Staff are interested in children's news and their day. They have developed positive relationships with children and they know each child very well.

Staff celebrate a range of festivals with children at the club. They teach children to respect each other. In return, children are kind and considerate to each other.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have a good understanding of what constitutes a safeguarding concern. They understand the procedures to follow to protect children from harm.

Staff attend training in safeguarding. They understand their duty to be vigilant to possible indicators that a child or family may be at risk of being drawn into extremist behaviours. Staff complete risk assessments and prepare activities which are suitable and safe for children.

The premises are secure and children are safe. Robust recruitment procedures ensure that children are always cared for by suitable adults. Staff have appropriate fire procedures in place and regularly practise fire drills.
