What is it like to attend this early years setting?
The provision is good
Children are self-motivated, curious learners.
They enter the nursery excited and eager to start their day. They greet staff with delight and demonstrate close, warm bonds with both familiar adults and their peers. Children are wonderfully kind to one another.
They recognise the needs of their friends and are keen to help and support each other. If children see that their friends are struggling with a task, they jump in to help without prompt. Staff treat children respectfully and this reflects in their behaviour.
Pre-school children giggle as they bake treats to take home. They count out loud and begin to und...erstand the language of measurement. Toddlers are engrossed as they create their own potions.
They marvel at the differing smells and use descriptive language. 'Woddlers' begin to show empathy. Staff carefully explain that children must be gentle as they study a spider outside.
Children listen and tiptoe around to not disturb the creature. Babies show impressive levels of confidence, they are settled and content. All children enjoy experiencing the world around them.
Staff include elements of nature in most activities. Children embrace this and especially enjoy smelling and feeling different textures of herbs, fruit plants and sticks.Staff have high expectations for every child.
They know children well. This helps them to set individual, challenging goals for all children. This reflects in children's continual good progress.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Children's communication and language skills are well supported. The manager is keen to make all areas of the nursery 'talking points'. She creates interactive areas, such as 'nature trees', to evoke conversation between parents and children at drop off times.
This, alongside other activities such as sponsored reads, has had a positive impact on children's speaking, listening and understanding skills. Staff then reinforce these skills with well-thought-out activities that inspire children to use new descriptive language and critical thinking skills.The management team support staff to implement a challenging, engaging curriculum.
They communicate effectively with staff, which helps to ensure that children receive consistently good quality learning experiences across the nursery. Staff understand how young children learn. This helps all children to grow developmentally.
Children show embedded learning as they recall past experiences and key messages from previous learning. This supports all children as they transition to the next stages in their learning.Physical development is a key focus for the nursery.
The management team are passionate about supporting and extending children's skills. Each room has a dedicated space for climbing and navigating. This helps to build children's large-muscle skills.
Children embrace this and show impressive skills, indoors and outdoors. They create their own obstacle courses and celebrate as they successfully complete them. They are proud of their achievements.
Staff support some aspects of children's personal development successfully. For example, lunchtimes are a social occasion. Children show strong levels of independence as they self-serve foods.
These skills are particularly important for those due to start primary school. However, sleep time routines are not consistent across the nursery. While some children sleep until they are well rested, others are disturbed when staff raise blinds and begin activities before they are ready to wake.
This means some children are dazed and not quite ready to join their peers for afternoon play.Parents are very thankful to the nursery. They commend the staff and the management team.
They comment that their children come home each day excited to share the fun experiences they have had at nursery. Parents are particularly grateful to the nursery for their 'swift responses' to their children's needs. The management team and staff work hard to build effective working partnerships with parents.
The management team are ambitious. They strive to continually improve and evolve the nursery. They appreciate the staff team and consider their well-being to be of the utmost importance.
This helps staff to feel valued, happy and supported within their roles. Staff benefit from regular training and use this knowledge to consistently raise their own quality of teaching and practice. This benefits children.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.The management team have a sound understanding of their roles and responsibilities with regards to safeguarding children. Staff recognise the signs and symptoms which may indicate a child is being abused or neglected.
They know the steps they must take should they have concerns for a child's welfare. The management team know the procedures they must follow in the event of an allegation being made against any person working with children. This helps to keep children safe.
Staff are trained in paediatric first aid. This knowledge helps them to know how to respond in the case of an injury or if a child becomes unwell.
What does the setting need to do to improve?
To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: support further children's personal development by ensuring staff provide consistent approaches to sleep time routines across the nursery.
