Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leadership is outstanding because the visionary leaders have considerably improved the school since it opened. Pupils' outcomes have risen.

The school draws on the strength of the academy trust. Leaders work in close and successful collaboration across the trust. Governance is extremely strong.

Directors and members of the academy council know the school well. They are passionate about improving education in the local community. Leaders manage the quality of teaching highly successfully.

They know their staff well and promote their teaching skills well. Teaching is consistently good and meets the needs of most pupils. However, ad...ults' expectations for the most able are not routinely high enough.

Teaching is well planned, so that pupils know what they are going to learn and how to improve. Pupils' outcomes are on a rising trend. More children in Reception achieve a good level of development now than when the school opened.

This upward trend is also true for pupils in Years 1 and 2. Pupils achieve very well, particularly in reading and mathematics. Achievement in writing is a little less strong.

Pupils do not always have a wide enough range of topics to write on. Occasionally correct spelling is not sufficiently reinforced. Pupils' behaviour is good.

Pupils generally get on well together. They respect others of different faiths and cultures. Pupils' attendance is beginning to rise through determined actions by leaders.

However, attendance is still below average, and this hinders the progress of pupils who persistently miss more school than they should. The school keeps pupils safe. It makes sure that pupils know how to protect themselves when out and about and when using computers.

Safeguarding routines are extremely strong. All adults know what to do if a child is hurt or if there is a safeguarding concern. Staff are very well trained in safeguarding.

The early years provision is safe and welcoming. It gives the children a good range of stimulating topics, enabling them to learn good language, number and social skills.

Beulah is larger than average for a primary school.

The school is a sponsor-led academy. In September 2014 it joined the Pegasus Trust, a group of local primary schools that also manages a maintained nursery school. Following an Ofsted inspection in 2014, prior to its becoming part of the trust, the school underwent considerable changes in staffing.

The current head of school has been in post since January 2016. The trust is led by the board of academy directors. The school is governed by members of the academy council.

The executive headteachers are both local leaders of education. There is no provision for two-year-olds. Children in the Nursery class attend for either five mornings or five afternoons.

Reception children attend full time. The proportion of pupils who are eligible for pupil premium funding is higher than average. Most pupils are from a wide range of minority ethnic heritages.

The school runs the breakfast club and after-school care provision. The school meets requirements on the publication of specified information on its website. The school complies with Department for Education guidance on what academies should publish.
