Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leaders acted decisively to successfully reverse a dip in progress and standards, following the last inspection. With the support of governors, they improved the quality of the curriculum and raised teachers' expectations.

Leaders established a consistent approach to teaching across the school. The quality of teaching of English and mathematics has improved and is now good. Current pupils are making strong progress in reading, writing and mathematics.

Standards of attainment have risen and are above average, by the end of key stage 2. The teaching of science is a strength of the school. Pupils can test their own ideas and use scientific v...ocabulary accurately to describe their observations.

Parents and carers praise the inclusive and friendly atmosphere of the school. They feel that communication is strong and that there is an effective partnership between home and school. The needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are swiftly identified.

Staff work together to ensure that pupils' needs are well met and that they make good progress. Leaders monitor the impact of the additional support disadvantaged pupils receive. They use their findings to ensure that pupils are making strong gains in their learning.

The curriculum is vibrant and engaging. Pupils have the opportunity to write about a wide variety of subjects. Most pupils present their work well.

However, some teachers do not always address misconceptions in some pupils' work. Pupils are articulate and keen to learn. They take responsibility for their actions and enjoy supporting others at playtime.

Pupils can explain how they learn to make good choices that keep them safe, both when online and when playing out. The school prepares pupils well for life in modern Britain. Leaders are increasing the membership of the leadership team.

Some middle leaders are at the early stages of developing the skills that they need to bring about further improvement in their subject areas. Teachers have a clear understanding of the needs of the children in early years. They respond well to children's interests.

However, they do not always use the assessment information that they have collected as well as they could to ensure that activities challenge all children.

The school is a smaller-than-average-sized primary school. Pupils are taught in mixed- age classes.

The school has grown in size recently. The current headteacher took up her position in September 2014. Most governors have taken up their positions since the last inspection.

The chair of governors took up his position in September 2017. There have been some changes to staffing since the last inspection. The majority of pupils are from White British backgrounds.

The proportion of pupils eligible for the pupil premium is lower than the national average. The proportion of pupils with SEND is higher than the national average. The governors manage a before- and after-school club, which takes place on the school site.
