This is a good school Children in early years, including those who are disadvantaged, get a good start to their education. They make good progress from their starting points because of the quality of teaching they receive. They quickly develop their social skills and positive attitudes to learning so that they are well prepared for key stage 1.

Pupils achieve well in school, particularly in reading and mathematics. They make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for their next stages of education. Disadvantaged pupils make stronger progress than other pupils nationally in reading, writing and mathematics because of leaders' effective use of the... pupil premium grant.

Teachers have good subject knowledge, particularly in mathematics and history, which they use effectively to promote pupils' learning. Teachers use questioning well to probe pupils' knowledge and understanding. Pupils do not consistently apply their skills and knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation in their work in different subjects.

Pupils have limited opportunities to deepen their understanding of more complex ideas in science and geography. Leaders have a clear vision and high expectations. They have brought about improvements to the quality of teaching and pupils' outcomes.

The school's well-balanced curriculum inspires pupils' learning in a wide range of subjects. An extensive range of activities promotes pupils' acquisition of new skills and knowledge, including German, first aid and sporting skills. Parents are overwhelmingly supportive of the school.
