Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leaders have taken effective action to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Pupils' outcomes have improved and are now good. Pupils enjoy, and are successful in, learning across a wide range of subjects. The curriculum is well designed and is regularly adapted to meet pupils' needs.

Pupils' safety is of the utmost priority, with an emphasis on pupils learning how to keep themselves safe. Pupils' attendance has improved and is now similar to the national average. Leaders' clear direction about writing has helped pupils to understand how to improve their work and consequently make stronger progress.

Phonics teaching is str...ong in key stage 1 and pupils apply their phonics skills successfully to reading and writing. The proportion of pupils achieving the Year 1 phonics standard has improved and is similar to the national average. Work has taken place to improve the early years environment and assessment procedures.

However, insufficient attention has been given to ensuring that children quickly apply their phonics skills to become confident, independent writers. New direction in mathematics is helping pupils to develop their number and calculation skills. However, there are limited opportunities for pupils, particularly the most able, to select and apply skills in mathematical investigations.

School leaders gather a wide range of accurate information about the progress of pupils and groups of pupils. However, school improvement plans do not identify precisely which aspects of learning need to improve and for which groups of pupils.
