Overall, the quality of teaching is good. Teachers are particularly successful at instilling in pupils a love of reading. Most-able pupils receive increasing levels of challenge in lessons.

This is particularly evident in mathematics. Teachers and teaching assistants provide effective and sensitive support for disadvantaged pupils and those who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities. Until recently, leaders had not given enough attention to securing the highest standards across all subjects in the curriculum.

There remains scope to lift further the consistency of teachers' expectations and aspirations for what pupils can achieve. The work of middle leaders, some new to their roles, does not yet effectively impact on raising standards and improving pupils' outcomes.
