Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Following a decline in standards from the previous inspection, leaders have brought about rapid improvements in pupils' behaviour and the standards they reach. Leaders have created a positive and vibrant community for learning.

Pupils are proud of their school and its caring and inclusive ethos. Outcomes have improved and progress in English and mathematics is in line with that seen nationally. Progress across a range of subjects is also improving.

Teachers have good subject knowledge and use their questioning skills well to check pupils' understanding. Pupils' behaviour in lessons and around the school site is good and disruption is rare.... Pupils are very polite and they respect and celebrate each other's differences.

In the sixth form, students enjoy their learning and benefit from good-quality teaching. They make good progress which prepares them well for the next stage of their education, employment and training. Pupils feel safe at school and know how to keep themselves and others safe.

Leaders have developed a curriculum for all ages which prepares pupils well for life in modern Britain. Teachers do not always make effective use of the information they receive about pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities to ensure that work is set at the right level for them. Most-able pupils do not have enough opportunities to explore their subjects in greater depth and make the progress of which they are capable.

Leaders do not systematically evaluate the impact of new initiatives so that they are not able to judge their effectiveness precisely enough. Rates of persistent absence, especially among disadvantaged pupils, are too high.
