Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is an outstanding school Granton is a very lively and welcoming school. Pupils love coming to school and have a real enthusiasm for learning. The headteacher leads a very strong team who share his belief that the pupils deserve an excellent education and are dedicated to providing this.

The Nursery and Reception classes give children an outstanding start to their education in a colourful, attractive and safe environment. From a low starting point, by the time they leave the school pupils are working at a level which is at or above the national expectation in English and mathematics. Excellent teaching ensures that pupils make rapid progress across all subjects..../>
Disadvantaged pupils and those who speak English as an additional language achieve at a similar level to other pupils. Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities achieve well. The rich curriculum provides children with an excellent range of opportunities to extend their learning both in and out of the classroom.

Pupils' behaviour is outstanding. They learn to respect each other and adults and take responsibility for themselves. They feel safe in school.

The school strongly supports the British values of tolerance, respect and belief in the rule of law. Parents are highly supportive of the school. The governors know the school extremely well.

They are supportive but also challenge the school to do even better. Attendance has greatly improved and is now at least in line with the national average. Pupils learn to read quickly but some find comprehension more difficult.

Staff are working effectively to help pupils improve their skills.

Information about this school

The school meets requirements on the publication of specified information on its website. Most pupils are from minority ethnic backgrounds with many nationalities being represented in the school.

Many pupils who join the school in the Nursery or Reception classes speak English as an additional language. About a quarter of all pupils join the school later than is usual. Many of these pupils also speak English as an additional language.

In the early years, Nursery children attend either full time or for two and a half days a week. In Reception all children attend full time. The school runs its own breakfast club.

The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities is similar to that found in most primary schools. The proportion of pupils who are considered to be disadvantaged is much higher than in most primary schools. The school met the government's floor standards in 2016, which are the minimum expectations for pupils' progress and attainment in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6.
