Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is an outstanding school The headteacher and deputy headteacher have an exceptionally strong vision for the future of the school which is shared by staff and governors. Senior leaders are ambitious and they constantly strive to ensure that the school provides the very best for pupils and their parents.

Leaders' focused approach includes carrying out regular checks on the quality of teaching and learning. This has led to a year-on-year improvement to pupils' outcomes. Governors wholeheartedly back senior leaders in their quest to make the school the best it can be.

The very regular visits governors make to the school and the introduction of governing body ...training days have enabled governors to develop a very clear insight into the school's strengths and areas in need of improvement. Children join the Reception class with skills and knowledge broadly typical for their age. Because of the very close working partnership with local nurseries, children nearly always settle into school routines quickly.

Teachers and teaching assistants work very closely together as a team. They plan work which meets the needs of pupils well. As a result, pupils often make exceptional progress across the curriculum.

Disadvantaged pupils make excellent progress from a range of starting points. This is because : of leaders' astute use of pupil premium funding, which includes employing a teacher who works with each individual child regularly to ensure that they make the best progress possible. Pupils' highly caring attitudes are evident in the exceptionally polite way they greet visitors to the school.

Several spoken to were new to the school and were keen to tell inspectors how quickly they had settled into school. A comment made by one child summed up the feelings of others: 'This school is the best ever.' Pupils' behaviour is exemplary.

Learning is almost never interrupted by incidents of difficult behaviour. Pupils say they feel safe in school and that staff teach them to stay safe in a variety of different ways. These include road safety training and 'bikeability' training, as well as e-safety training delivered through information technology lessons.

Pupils make excellent progress in mathematics and English. They make slightly less strong progress in science. This is because pupils do not always have sufficient opportunity to carry out meaningful scientific investigations.
