Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Recent improvements to teaching, learning and the monitoring of achievement are enabling pupils in most year groups to make good progress. Leaders are working successfully with external consultants to improve the quality of teaching, learning and achievement. Governors are increasingly providing challenge to leaders in order to hold them to account.

Attendance for most groups of pupils is in line with the national average. Attendance for a small minority of persistent absentees is still too low. The quality of teaching is improving.

Work is increasingly matched to pupils' needs and they are being challenged to make the progress they are c...apable of. Additional funding is used well to support the achievement of disadvantaged pupils. Strategies to help pupils catch up with their learning, attend school and enjoy extra-curricular activities enhance pupils' experience of school.

Homework is not being used to best effect to help pupils make additional progress in core subjects. The new headteacher has further raised expectations of staff and pupils. This is having a positive impact on pupils' achievement.

Leaders are clear about the school's strengths and areas for improvement. Detailed plans, monitored closely, are in place to tackle weaknesses. Pupils are well behaved.

They are friendly, tolerant and considerate towards adults and each other. Children in the early years achieve well and enjoy their experience. However, leaders' oversight and monitoring of provision across classes is not yet fully developed.

The overwhelming majority of parents, staff and pupils who completed inspection surveys responded favourably. The curriculum enables pupils to learn skills and acquire knowledge in different subjects. They have many opportunities to practise writing skills and study cross-curricular topics.

However, there is too little evidence of learning in science. Pupils take pride in their school and their appearance. However, the presentation of work in some pupils' books is not yet good enough.
