Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leaders and governors are knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. They accurately evaluate the school's overall effectiveness and have agreed the correct priorities for further improvement.

Leaders and governors are uncompromising in their ambition. They have high expectations of the whole staff and lead by example. The headteacher is well respected by staff, pupils and the wider community.

She knows the school well and has begun her headship with enthusiasm and tenacity. Outcomes at Moreton Morrell have continued to improve since the last inspection. By the time pupils leave in Year 6, their attainment and progress is above leve...ls found nationally.

Pupils make strong rates of progress across almost all subjects. However, there is some variation in achievement in writing across the school, and in the wider curriculum in key stage 2. This is particularly the case in history and geography where leaders do not monitor outcomes with as much rigour as other areas.

The quality of teaching and learning is good. Teachers have many key strengths and appreciate the professional development and support they receive from leaders. Assessment systems have developed in line with changes at a national level and the performance of individual pupils is well known.

Assessment systems do not yet fully take account of trends in achievement for different groups of pupils. As a result, leaders and governors are not making the best use of the information available to them. Pupils' behaviour is very strong.

Pupils are courteous, polite and inquisitive learners. Pupils are given key responsibilities as they move through school. They are keen to be 'buddies' and enjoy supporting one another in their learning and play.

Pupils take pride in their work on the whole but there is some variation in standards of presentation and handwriting. This is particularly noticeable for older pupils in writing. Pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is well promoted across the school.

Moreton Morrell is proud of its Christian ethos. However, fundamental British values are not as well embedded. The early years provision is a key strength of the school.

Pupils are well challenged from the moment they join school and parents are encouraged to take part in their learning journey.
