Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher's determination to make sure that teaching and learning are of high quality for all pupils is shared by the staff. Teaching is now good.

Governors have successfully challenged school leaders to improve pupils' performance. Their decisions about the use of resources have helped to improve the quality of teaching and learning for pupils. Leaders check that the quality of teaching is effective and that pupils are making good progress.

The foundation stage classes provide a lively and stimulating environment for children. The staff have high expectations of their progress. The curriculum is linked to their interests and maximi...ses opportunities to develop their skills.

Disadvantaged pupils make good progress. Many achieve the expected standard in English and mathematics by the end of key stage 2 and are well prepared for secondary school. Training for teachers has improved the teaching of physical education (PE).

More pupils are involved with extra-curricular activities and are active at lunchtimes. The curriculum is lively and engaging. Drama provides opportunities for pupils to talk purposefully and well-planned visits stimulate pupils' curiosity.

Pupils behave well. They follow instructions in lessons and pay attention. Staff support a very small number of pupils to manage their own behaviour at lunchtimes.

The most able pupils are not always challenged in lessons. Teachers do not consistently demand the best presentation of their work or set tasks which require them to give more expansive answers. Too few pupils achieve the higher standard by the end of key stage 2.

Children with education, health and care plans make good progress. However, the progress of other children with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities is not as good because assessments of the needs of these pupils are not as accurate.
