Summary of key findings for parents and pupils
This is a good school The headteacher is ambitious for the school and determined to ensure that it provides the best possible education. He is establishing a culture of high expectations to ensure that teaching is highly effective and supports the academic and personal development of pupils.
Governors' contribution to the strategic direction and improvement agenda of the school is very effective. Teachers and other staff fully support the headteacher's initiatives. They are well supported to develop their practice through teamwork and training.
As a result, pupils' attainment across the curriculum is improving. The headteacher led the implementation of a new c...urriculum designed by teachers to engage pupils and meet their learning needs. Pupils enjoy the wide range of activities, including trips and visits, they do as part of their day-to-day learning.
These activities contribute greatly to pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. The atmosphere in school is calm and orderly. This is because pupils behave well in lessons and around the school at breaktime and lunchtime.
They feel safe in the school. They trust and respect adults. With the new curriculum, the headteacher introduced a new assessment system.
Leaders have rigorous systems in place to check that the information on pupils' attainment and progress is reliable. However, systems to analyse progress are not yet developed enough to support teachers' long-term planning. There has been a large turnover of staff since the previous inspection.
The school is fully staffed with well-qualified teachers, but almost half of the current staff have been appointed over the last three years. As a result, there are some variations in the quality of teaching. Interventions to support pupils who need extra help, including pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities are effective.
However, as there are currently unfilled vacancies for teaching assistant posts, there is not always enough support for these pupils in lessons in some year groups. Newly appointed acting deputy headteachers, year-group leaders and subject leaders work well together. They are starting to have a positive impact on the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
However, this new leadership structure is not yet developed enough and is still to have a sustained impact on outcomes.
