Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Pupils are happy; they get along well together and take part in a wide range of learning experiences. The curriculum has been improved and now engages pupils in their learning.

This means that pupils make better progress in reading, writing and mathematics. School leaders have correctly identified where the school needs to improve and have supported staff in making these changes. Consequently, teaching and learning are good across the school.

Teachers have good subject knowledge and know how to get the best out of pupils. Pupils behave well. Older pupils are supportive of younger pupils.

Pupils take pride in their school and enjo...y being part of a small community. Leaders work hard to develop the pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. They teach the pupils about the local area and wider issues.

Pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities are well supported. They make good progress. The headteacher has an excellent understanding of what needs to be done to improve the school further.

She is well supported by a strong leadership team who are all having a positive impact across the school. Although attendance has been in line with the national average for the last three years, there are still some pupils who need to attend school more regularly. Pupils follow instructions and listen attentively in class.

However, at times, some pupils are still unclear what they are learning and what they need to do to improve. The school plans effectively for mixed-age classes but there are times when pupils do not receive learning appropriate to their specific needs. Children have good access to outdoor learning in the early years, but the curriculum at times does not give them activities that they can investigate and learn from independently.
