Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school Leaders and governors have high expectations and aspirations for the academic and social success of all pupils. They are knowledgeable and demonstrate a strong commitment to the school and its wider community.

The quality of teaching and learning is good across the school. Some teachers' expectations of pupils in writing are not as high as their expectations in reading and mathematics. This means that pupils do not always achieve the highest possible standards in writing.

Some teachers do not always provide the most able pupils with work that routinely challenges them sufficiently. As a result, they do not always reach the higher standard...s of which they are capable. Consistently good phonics teaching means that pupils read and spell well.

Pupils' behaviour in and around the school is outstanding. They are respectful to others, and respond very well to the school's reward systems. They have very positive attitudes to learning.

Pupils and staff are proud to be part of the St Andrew's 'family'. Children get off to an excellent start in the early years. Leaders and teaching staff make sure that children make strong progress from their low starting points.

As a result, children are extremely well prepared for Year 1. Safeguarding is effective. Leaders and staff are highly vigilant to the risks faced by pupils.

The school's highly inclusive ethos ensures that all families and pupils are exceptionally well supported. Leaders promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well. Pupils learn about a wide range of faiths and cultures.

They have a thorough and deep understanding of life in modern Britain. The curriculum is broad, balanced and rich in creativity. It provides pupils with opportunities to build on their knowledge, and to see links between different subjects and themes.

Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are well supported by skilful staff. Consequently, they make good progress from their starting points.
