Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher leads the school with a strong moral purpose.

He and the deputy headteacher share an unwavering vision for all pupils and the school to succeed. This vision, adopted by leaders, staff and governors, is underpinned by strong Christian values that promote equality well. Senior leaders know the strengths of the school and where it needs to improve further.

They have taken decisive action to reverse the decline in pupils' achievement, especially in reading and mathematics. Pupils are safe and flourish personally, socially and emotionally. This is because the school's Christian values are of high importance to staff and pupils....

Pupils demonstrate that they have a strong understanding of these and British values. Teachers and teaching assistants are increasingly skilled. They know their pupils well, expecting and encouraging them to apply themselves within lessons.

Staff support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) well. Consequently, they enjoy their learning and make good progress. Pupils' behaviour in lessons and around school is impeccable.

There are effective strategies in place to promote high standards of behaviour and to help pupils become self-disciplined. Governors are committed to their roles and want the best for the pupils in the school. Governors know the school's strengths and provide challenge to leaders.

Leadership is strong in the early years. Children enjoy a stimulating curriculum, and teaching is good. As a result, children are well prepared for Year 1.

Pupils make strong progress in phonics. Their results in the phonics screening check are consistently above those seen nationally. Current pupils are making good progress in English, mathematics and religious education.

However, pupils' progress in other subjects is inconsistent. Teachers have high expectations of pupils and this can be seen in the demands they make of most pupils in their learning. However, the most able pupils are not sufficiently challenged in lessons.

Consequently, these pupils do not make the progress of which they are capable.
