Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher has united the school community in a wholehearted drive for improvement. Parents, staff and pupils are unanimous in their support for her vision. Leaders' commitment, enthusiasm and skill has enabled the school to improve markedly since the last inspection.

Senior leaders' relentless focus on improving the quality of teaching has successfully eradicated past weaknesses. Consequently, pupils make better progress now than in the past. Teaching engages pupils' interest and equips them with key skills in English and mathematics.

The teaching of phonics is highly effective. Starting in the early years, children acquire decoding... skills quickly and securely. Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school.

Their behaviour is typically kind, thoughtful and respectful. Pupils and parents agree that the school provides a safe and secure learning environment. Children get off to a good start in early years.

Effective transition arrangements help children to settle quickly. During their first year in school, children make good progress, achieve well and are fully prepared to join Year 1. Disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities make good progress.

Their needs are well understood and the right help is quickly put in place to support them. In recent years, pupils' attainment has been below national figures at the end of key stage 2. Current pupils are making quick progress and more are on track to achieve the expected standards by the end of Year 6.

Senior leaders reinforce the importance of regular attendance at school. However, rates of absence are still too high for disadvantaged pupils and pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. The sports premium is not spent effectively.

It is not improving achievement and participation in sports and physical education (PE).
