Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher has high expectations of pupils and staff and a clear understanding of what constitutes effective teaching and learning. Therefore, pupils' outcomes are rapidly improving.

School leadership has been effective in bringing about improvements in the quality of teaching and in pupils' outcomes. The quality of teaching is now good and pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics. Leaders have ensured that the broad and balanced curriculum is effective.

Pupils enjoy the subjects they are taught and are motivated to learn well. Pupils are safe. They say they feel safe and they have an excellent understanding of h...ow to keep themselves and others safe.

Parents, almost unanimously, agree. Pupils behave well in classrooms and around the school. Teachers' good subject knowledge and questioning skills enable pupils to make good progress.

Teaching assistants support and promote pupils' learning effectively. In 2016 and 2017, the proportions of key stage 2 pupils who achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics combined was above the national average. Leaders track pupils' progress and attainment closely in reading, writing and mathematics.

For other subjects, this is in the very early stages and is not yet fully developed. In 2017, too few pupils achieved greater depth in mathematics at key stage 1 and the higher standard at key stage 2. Leaders have introduced new approaches to teaching mathematics, but it is too soon to see their impact.

Children in the early years get off to a good start. Outcomes have remained consistently above the national average for several years. The early years outdoor area is underdeveloped.

It lacks the resources needed to fully promote high-quality learning.
