Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school As a result of the determination and vision of the headteacher, ably supported by senior leaders and the governing body, the school has improved a great deal since the last inspection. Together with continuously improving middle leadership, they ensure that pupils now achieve well.

Standards of attainment reached by the end of each key stage have risen and are now above average. Pupils make good progress from their starting points, particularly in reading and mathematics. This includes pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

Leaders recognise that tasks set for the most able pupils sometimes lack challenge. This ...prevents them from reaching the highest standards of which they are capable. Teaching meets pupils' needs well.

Teachers use a range of assessment information to plan appropriate learning activities. They check pupils' understanding and learning carefully, addressing any misconceptions swiftly so that pupils make good progress. Teachers follow the new school policy for this well.

Pupils' behaviour is good, both in classrooms and in outdoor play areas. Pupils enjoy coming to the school, reflected in their steadily improving attendance. They are eager to learn and work hard.

Leaders' effective monitoring of pupils' outcomes in English and mathematics is ensuring that pupils achieve well. This is because leaders take swift action to support pupils who fall behind. Monitoring is not as rigorous in other curriculum subjects.

Staff promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well through the wide and varied range of curriculum experiences, both in and out of the school. Thoughtful, high-quality care contributes well to the happy and harmonious school atmosphere. As a result, pupils feel safe and secure.

Pupils are considerate and polite. They know about the different forms that bullying takes, including cyber bullying. Provision in the early years is good.

Children develop an eagerness to learn new things which prepares them well for learning in Year 1. Governors have a strong understanding of the school's strengths and areas for development. They challenge leaders well, which ensures that there are high expectations of all leaders and staff in school.
