Summary of key findings for parents and pupils

This is a good school The headteacher leads the school well. She has brought about many improvements since her arrival at the school in 2016.

The school now provides a good quality of education. Governance has improved. Governors discharge their responsibilities well and provide effective direction and support to the school.

Subject leaders are making an increasingly effective contribution to improvements in the school. Parents enthusiastically support the school and value the welcoming family atmosphere. Teachers have good subject knowledge and plan lessons which interest pupils.

As a result, pupils are making faster progress than in previous years. ...Pupils at Warninglid are courteous and behave well. They have positive attitudes to learning and enjoy school.

The curriculum is interesting and motivates pupils to learn. The early years setting is a happy, nurturing environment and children make a confident start to school. The quality of pupils' writing has improved and a higher proportion of pupils are on track to achieve and exceed the expected standards at the end of Year 6.

However, the school acknowledges that there is still more work to do to improve writing, including for the youngest children. The most able pupils are not challenged consistently to enable them to deepen their learning sufficiently. Some pupils do not take enough care with the presentation of their work.

Leaders' evaluations of the work of the school and governors' challenge of leaders are not sharply focused on pupils' outcomes.

The school meets requirements on the publication of specified information on its website. Warninglid is a smaller than average-sized primary school, located in a rural village.

There are currently three classes of mixed ages. Pupils in Reception, Years 1 and 2 are taught together, as are pupils from Years 3 and 4, and pupils in Years 5 and 6. Pupils come from a very wide area around the school.

Most pupils are of White British heritage. Very few pupils speak English as an additional language. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils is below the national average.

The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities is similar to the national average. The proportion of pupils who join and leave at times other than the normal point of entry to school is much higher than the national average. The current headteacher was appointed to the school in April 2016.

There have been many other staff changes since the school's last inspection in 2015. There is an early morning club before the start of the normal school day. This is run by staff from the school.
