What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children are animated as they arrive at the club. They eagerly say 'hello' to the staff and tell them about their day. Children have a good understanding of the safety boundaries put in place due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and confidently follow these.
For example, children move around the play areas while remaining in their year groups and use the resources allocated for them.Children concentrate well as they use beads and string to create jewellery. They carefully thread each bead and begin to weave with dexterity.
Staff encourage them to keep on trying as they join the materials. This helps children to persi...st and, once finished, they delight in showing off their achievements to others. Children develop friendships and understand the importance of taking turns and sharing.
For example, they help each other to search for beads with letters on and share their joy when they are found. Staff have high expectations with regard to children's behaviour and are positive role models. Children listen well and speak to one another and staff with respect.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff build positive relationships with parents and this supports the children to settle. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, parents do not enter the club as they would usually. However, staff share relevant information with children's parents at the entrance.
New children are invited to an online meeting and can spend some time with their parent engaging in outdoor activities at the club.Staff talk to children about the rules of games and outdoor play before they join activities. Children demonstrate that they feel the club is a safe and secure environment as they share their problems with staff.
Staff are reassuring with children at these times and show good listening skills. The provider is committed to developing the club. She has identified that the children have had limited access to sport coaching due to the pandemic.
To minimise the impact this has on children's physical health and well-being, more access to the outdoors is being provided. Children engage in outdoor activities in their year groups.Recruitment procedures for staff are robust.
The provider completes a thorough induction with all new staff and holds regular supervision meetings with them. However, some areas of professional development are not targeted in order to further raise the quality of the service offered.Staff listen to children with interest and engage them in thoughtful conversations.
Children learn about respect and acceptance. As they discuss the European football tournament, they reflect on the charitable work of a particular footballer and how he has helped people in society. They show positive attitudes towards others and are well prepared for life in the society they live in.
Staff support children's communication and language well. They listen to children with interest and engage them in thoughtful conversations. Children are good communicators and can describe their ideas in detail.
For example, they engage in group drawing in teams of three. Each person draws a part of a character without the others looking. Children find the end result hilarious and use their imaginations to give their characters a name.
Staff have a good relationship with the on-site school that children also attend. They pass on information about children to support consistency of care. The headteacher commends staff for the secure partnerships they have established with the school.
Staff follow consistent hygiene practices to promote children's good health and children remind each other to fill up their water bottles to stay hydrated. Children have a healthy snack and a hearty, nutritious meal at the club, which they describe as 'the best meal ever'.Parents speak highly of the club.
They understand that they cannot access the building at present but feel well informed through newsletters, verbal discussions and social media. They value the hot meal option and say this gives them peace of mind that the children have eaten as they occasionally go straight to other clubs.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
Staff can confidently identify signs and symptoms of possible abuse and neglect and understand the procedures in place and who to share any concerns with. They complete safeguarding training and regularly update their understanding of safeguarding matters. Staff demonstrate a secure understanding of how to keep children safe.
They undertake effective risk assessments to promote children's welfare and maintain a safe environment. For example, children access the outdoor areas in their year groups and staff ensure that all children are accounted for as they move around areas of the club. Staff stringently monitor access to the premises and the leader of the club answers the door to parents.
