What is it like to attend this early years setting?
This provision meets requirements Children are happy and confident in the care of the experienced and friendly staff. They appreciate the warm welcome they receive, when staff collect them from their classrooms. They quickly settle into the clear routines for registration and snack times, for instance.
Children behave very well during the session and respect the instruction and guidance staff offer. They know what is expected of them and are keen to participate in the many opportunities staff encourage them to join in. For example, they love playing bingo together and staff provide strong support to help them recognise and match the different numbers.
Chil...dren are safe and secure. They rise to staff's high expectations for their behaviour and well-being. For example, children discuss their understanding of the difference between bullying and other forms of behaviour as they create anti-bullying posters and stories.
Children learn to share, take turns and help each other as they build with their wide range of construction toys, play board games together or help each other write letters to Father Christmas. Parents are very appreciative of the good support and information they receive and the high level of care shown to their children.
What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?
Staff make a strong contribution to children's health and well-being.
They help children understand the importance of good hygiene and dental care. For instance, children are positively encouraged to brush their teeth carefully after their nutritious breakfast at the club. Children enjoy the healthy snacks available, including designing and cooking their own tasty pizzas.
The experienced and well-qualified manager is keen to consistently develop the quality of the club's effectiveness. She regularly reviews the provision through seeking the views of children, parents and staff and identifying training and other opportunities to develop their practice. Staff work closely with the teachers and senior staff of the host school to ensure they best meet children's needs.
Staff create a warm and nurturing environment. Young children play happily with their older peers and feel valued and supported. The manager encourages children with more experience of the club to act as 'buddies' to new starters and take them 'under their wing'.
Parents comment very positively on the impact the club has on developing children's confidence and social skills.Staff provide strong support to children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. They liaise closely with the children's teachers and parents in order to support them effectively.
Staff are sensitive to the children's feelings and needs. They spend time talking to the children and supporting them to find solutions to experiences that they may find difficult.Staff provide many different activities to suit children's different needs.
For example, children can choose to sit and read from the well-resourced reading and role-play area or develop their physical skills in the hall or on the many climbing and balancing resources outside.Children are strongly involved in the day-to-day life of the club. Staff listen constantly to their opinions and involve them in planning and organising activities.
Staff talk regularly to parents to make sure their planning reflects children's changing and developing interests and abilities. Staff strongly promote children's independence and encourage them to increasingly think for themselves. For instance, children choose many of their own resources, seek help when they need it and tidy away after they have played or before they go home.
Parents strongly recommend the club. They feel confident leaving their children in the staff's care and comment on how the children always look forward to attending and often want to stay longer. Parents appreciate the information staff share with them about their children's engagement with activities and the food they have enjoyed.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.Staff have a good knowledge of signs that children may be at risk of abuse or neglect, and understand how to record and report their concerns. They know the relevant agencies to inform to make sure that the correct and timely action is taken.
They have a positive understanding of a range of safeguarding concerns, such as protecting children from extreme views and county lines. Staff are regularly tested and challenged by the designated safeguarding lead to refresh and update their knowledge. Staff are vigilant and ensure that children play in a safe and secure environment.
