What is it like to attend this early years setting?

This provision meets requirements Children who attend this holiday club take part in a range of exciting and interesting activities, which are planned to capture their interest.

As they arrive, they receive a warm welcome from staff and settle quickly to their chosen task. This demonstrates that they feel happy and secure. Children forge friendships and build relationships with staff and their peers.

They say that they like meeting new friends who do not go to the same school as them and look forward to meeting them again at the next holiday club. Children's behaviour is exceptionally good. Staff reinforce the club rules at the start of the day.

C...hildren remember that they have to use 'kind hands' and kind words and listen to adults. When staff ask what the main rule of the club is, children shout loudly that it is to have fun. Staff provide many opportunities for children to spend time outdoors in the fresh air.

Younger children play games using a parachute and excitedly shake the parachute up and down. Older children learn new skills as they play rounders and shoot balls into a basketball net. Children especially enjoy letting the butterflies they have hatched and cared for over the summer go.

They excitedly gather round as staff open the net to let the butterflies fly away.

They wait patiently for icing sugar to be tipped into their bowls and talk about the changes that take place when water is added. They choose the food colouring they want to add and shout excitedly as their icing turns pink and red.

They share the sweets to decorate their biscuits and negotiate between themselves which ones they would like. Children pretend that their rocky road is 'Gruffalo crumble' and 'scrambled snake' from a favourite story. At times, staff are overly directive and carry out tasks that children could do themselves, such as pouring the icing sugar.

Older children work in pairs to make slime. They carefully mix glue and the 'slime activator' together and are fascinated as they watch the texture change. They place the slime in cups that they have decorated with stickers.
